Meet Trailblazer Jessica Dones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Dones.

Jessica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Since I can remember, I always had a passion for beauty and fashion. I look up to my mother for her incredible beauty and fashion sense, I always admire how she did her perfect black wing eyeliner and her bold red lips. As I got older, I would practice in the mirror and try to perfect her signature makeup look she was one of the reasons I love this industry so much she was the first person I have seen getting glamorous for events & being so fashionable on an everyday basis. I move to Boston, MA, when I was 18 years of age. I set goals to work for the best salons of Boston I started out as a receptionist and working as a hairstylist assistant for a few years it taught me a lot of what I know today I’ve met so many amazing people along the way. Today, I’m a makeup artist. I work in a beauty salon called Micheal’s Salon. I’m a beauty blogger and beauty influencer, I love what I do.

Has it been a smooth road?
Hasn’t been a smooth road anything in life isn’t as perfect as it seems. I’ve had to overcome a lot through the years in my personal life and my professional career. I never let the negativities overshadow my life-term goals. I’ve met so many incredible people that taught me and help me along the way not only in the makeup industry but also the business aspect of it all. I’m so thankful for each and every person that I’ve cross path within this field. The best advice I could give to young women’s who are just starting is don’t get discouraged if one door close keeps reaching for the starts the sky is the limit! Never give up on your dreams.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a Boston based makeup artist I’m also a beauty blogger. I specialize in bridal, prom, sweet fifteen, photoshoots basically all types of makeup for any event. What I’m most proud of the service I provide has to be seeing the faces of my clients after there in full glam the radiance of confidence they gain, is worth everything I do. What sets me apart from other? Good question you have to know the right types of products to use for each of your client’s Its has to hold up for many hours, look flawless and read well into the camera and most of all looks fresh as if you had just done it an hour ago, knowing the shapes and dimensions mastering your craft is really the key to being a great makeup artist.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
What has worked well for me is using apps Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube these platforms are perfect for social media marketing. For example, Instagram let me connect with other amazing beauty influencers around the world I’m able to showcase my work. I’ve been blessed with great opportunities for working with Clothing brands receiving PR packages from makeup companies, etc… Pinterest, I get great ideas for my photos or inspirations for the makeup looks. YouTube I follow so many talented beauty gurus. On my days off, I lay in bed grab a snack and watch beauty videos for hours (hahaha!) few of my favorite YouTuber are Diana Saldana, Camila Coelho, and Jeffree Star. I’ll be doing YouTube videos very soon be on the lookout! All these apps I mention has drastically made an impact in my life it has helped my career to further and be better at my craft.
