Today we’d like to introduce you to Esther Minc.
Esther, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I pretty much share my life and my experiences. I realized that there was more to being an influencer than just pretty pictures and selling brands. People who have a following can share experiences and spread messages that people should hear. I was in boarding school and I already got into college and didn’t really have much to do. I started making YouTube videos because people would ask me how I do my hair or my makeup or questions they wanted to know about me through Instagram. I just give people what they want to see from me. I have school, I like to work out and I work so I try to schedule around those things when it comes to posting.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s never a smooth road unless you’re born into a family with a following already. I think they key is confidence and how you present yourself. For some people, it takes a lot to be fully confident and happy with who they are. This doesn’t mean there’s no room for improvement. There is always room for improvement.
I used to be very unhappy with my physical appearance and just who I was. This was because I let hateful comments get to me. Growing up in Asia and being a 5’8 6th grader, boys used to make fun of me for being “bigger” than everyone else. I used to be made fun of for my nose; it was too big apparently. Oh yeah! And my religion too. Like how insane is that! People made fun of me for things I can’t change literally.
I can’t say there was a point in time where I decided I didn’t care about what the “haters” had to say, but there was a slow and steady growth in loving myself. This shows through my feed and my videos and it definitely helped with growth in my journey as well.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I don’t have anything I really specialize in or do specifically because to me this isn’t a job, it’s part of my lifestyle. I post what my followers want to see and I share my stories in hopes to inspire, influence and inform! I guess I’m known for my appearances on social media (YouTube and Instagram). I just like to share my voice and my opinions. I don’t get paid for a lot of what I do, it’s all voluntary.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
At this moment, I don’t have apps I live by but this definitely sounds like a good video idea!
