Meet Trailblazer Emily Vickers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Vickers.

Emily, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was young, I was given steroids to treat chronic eczema. After failing to show any improvement, a visit to an allergist revealed I’m allergic to Formaldehyde. A quick search and you’ll see that this chemical is in a lot of consumer products, especially those with fragrance. It was hard to find the skincare and makeup products I desired but then, I stumbled upon Follain and their clean beauty movement and I became hooked!

Over the last few years, I’ve been educating and near obsessing about safer alternatives to everyday living and that’s how my blog was born. Whether it’s makeup, skincare, food, exercise or baby, you can find it on Social Dearest.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I live my life with the 80/20 rule in mind. 80% of mine and my families products and foods are healthy, organic, and non-toxic and probably 20%, not so much. I wish I could live a zero waste lifestyle, but if motherhood has taught me anything, it is being realistic and practicing baby steps!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Social Dearest – what should we know?
Social Dearest was manifested after my daughter was born in 2016. My blog started as a place for my friends and family to read about easy ways to achieve a healthy and balanced body and home. I’m simply obsessed with finding beauty and baby products that aren’t full of toxins. My blog and Instagram has been an opportunity to document clean products that are not only better for the individual but better for the environment.

Recently, I’ve opened up the opportunity to consult with others looking to evolve and find ways to live a cleaner and less toxic lifestyle in an accessible way.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I’m fortunate that there are many inspiring female leaders in the nontoxic beauty industry.
