Meet Trailblazer Colby Correnti

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colby Correnti.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a licensed aesthetician in the state of Massachusetts who has worked both independently (as well as for a variety of salons and beauty spas) for nearly a decade. With over 8 years of experience in the field, I take pride in helping men and women all over New England look and feel their absolute best.

I have always considered myself to be intrinsically artistic. As a child, I was constantly surrounded by the arts while at school and also at home. My childhood consisted of watching a family member style hair for a living, and I was always taken by her career path and her passion to help others look their best. It was this fascination with beauty at home that I believe led my family to encourage me to begin taking art classes at only 6 years old. My love for the arts blossomed into a passion as I made the decision to continue my pursuit of art in high school. Choosing a major in fine arts allowed me to study a variety of artistic styles and exposed me to a working with a range of mediums such as painting, print-making and sculpture.

My dedication to the arts didn’t stop there. Still fascinated by aesthetics and the nature of beauty as art, I continued in my artistic education endeavors after high school and went on to receive my formal training at the Make-Up Designory, New York City’s premier post-secondary institution for fashion, film and television. From there, I chose to attend the Elizabeth Grady School of Esthetics, where I gained vital experience and hands-on training from some of the industry’s best and brightest.

Today, I own my own bridal hair and makeup company called Pretty Wife Beauty. As the CEO and founder of Pretty Wife Beauty, my main goal is to help my clients achieve absolutely breathtaking wedding-day beauty. We believe that every bride should feel her best on the best day of her life! PWB is an experience… we not only offer beautification services but also provide each bride with a one-of-a-kind pampering experience for her and her bridesmaids that is nothing short of exceptional.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My career journey has certainly had its ups and downs. Regardless of the setbacks I’ve experienced over the years, I have always had faith in my strong work ethic and seen how it has led me to the right people and opportunities. I pride myself on being a very sociable person and have a vast network of connections in the art and design world as a result. Always being in communication with various companies allows me to have my hands in many different cookie jars, which is something I love about my career. I have experience balancing 5 jobs at the same time, some of which include bartending, freelancing at YSL and Giorgio Armani, working as an esthetician at Equinox, assisting an interior design firm, as well as providing social media strategy services for various companies.

Being a young female who is still very much figuring our her path, I have always felt that people don’t take millennials seriously. We must work twice as hard to prove ourselves and that can be defeating at times. However, I am a firm believer that there is always more to growth to be had and endless knowledge to learn, no matter where you are in your career. Whatever it is that you are interested in, EDUCATE yourself as much as possible. The moment you think you know everything about your business or area of interest, you’ve already lost. Always listen to coworkers or colleagues, even if you think they are wrong or disagree. Hearing some else’s testimony might inspire or teach you. Learning from others successes and failures can be a huge help in guidance on your own journey.

Finally, if I have learned anything at all (and as cliche as it sounds), it is truly all about who you know. As I mentioned earlier, I wouldn’t have been presented with many of the opportunities I’ve had if I didn’t constantly network and put myself out there. You are a power brand and you must market yourself as such! My advice to others who are beginning their journey would be to work hard and surround yourself with people who are similarly business oriented. My group of friends has drastically changed in my twenties from those who didn’t dream as big as I do to friends that have the same goals and work ethic that I do. My friends constantly help to motivate me and keep me focused on the right track.

We’d love to hear more about Pretty Wife Beauty.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
In 2018, women all over the world are pushing boundaries and doing amazing things and I am proud to be one of them. It would be wrong of me to say I reached the level of success I have and stand where I am today without the help of others. There are countless women who inspire me daily, but there is one in particular that I will forever thank for her support and guidance: my best friend, Alex Shadrow. Alex is not only my best friend but has been an amazing role model and mentor to me in the business world. She founded her own company, UNItiques in 2015 while only a Junior at Boston University. Alex has taken her company from a small facebook group where college students at BU could buy and sell each other’s clothes and has expanded to over 600 campuses. UNItiques.com has nearly 30,000 members selling items from their closets to help pay for college-related expenses.

Though I consider myself to have an extensive background in all things beauty, understanding even the basic foundations of business was never one of the God-given talents. To be honest, I envied Alex for entrepreneurial traits. When I had the vision to start my own bridal beauty company Pretty Wife Beauty, I had no idea where to begin, to say the least. I knew this was a time to reach out to other entrepreneurs who could help guide me through the process. I found myself having to listen, research and learn from Alex (and much other business minded people in my life) about the ins and outs of starting a company.

Alex continues to inspire me by her drive and work ethic. Every time I call my best friend, she is off to a meeting with some A-list celebrity or business mogul. I look up to her in so many ways and she has been one of my biggest supporters in starting Pretty Wife Beauty.
