Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Miss5678 Thompson.
Chanel Miss5678, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started out as a professional cheerleader for the National Cheerleading Association, and a vocalist for various local rap artists in the Cambridge and Boston scene. My first dance gig was working with a female Mcee named Luv aunt of Michael Christmas, then later began doing modeling and dancing for fashion shows and hair shows. Artists and dance teams would ask if I could choreograph or develop their dancers and or teams, that was the beginning of putting together my development company. In 2005, I got the opportunity to work on N.O.R.E ‘s reggaeton show set at Madison Square Garden hiring Boston’s best dancers, then, later on, got to work on Rhea Dummet’s first single “Choreographer” featuring Jadakiss, which she, later on, got signed to Pharrell Williams.
In 2010, the biggest shift in my career came along when the opportunity to choreograph for ROCKBAND’s own Harmonix Music Systems came along to work on the biggest dance game in the world DANCE CENTRAL 1,2, & 3 being able to fulfill my purpose and passion dance choreograph & singing vocals for the franchise. along the way working for Jordan Knight, Lynda rose, Jyshoun, Nicole Michelle, CT Lottery, casting dancers for BOSE. This pushed me into Creatively Directing Artists, choreographers, dancers, models. Moving in this direction it led to working with Dynasty Model, Amia Zoe Thompson, artists-Marcela Cruz, MkX, Boston Mobile Dance, and teaching at Berklee in their BOCO program. Now, working on another dance game later to come out 2018-2019 It’s been an amazing journey thus far and I’m grateful to do what I love!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Struggles finding solid ground on working with artists with budgets or making the work sustain me financially, it a while to charge my worth. Working in a business dominated by male, finding a balance between respect and gift
