Meet Trailblazer Amanda Lacefield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Lacefield.

Amanda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Since I was little, I always wanted to have a career where I could be creative and where I could make a difference. Until high school, I never thought I would be able to do that in the beauty industry. My senior year is when I finally decided that makeup artistry was what I truly wanted to pursue as a career, after realizing how happy it made me. Makeup was an outlet where I could express myself, be creative, and build my own confidence. I wanted to be able to show others that and follow my dream! After doing makeup on friends and family, as well as my first few clients, I knew I had made the right choice. I was able to see the joy in my clients’ faces and bring out their natural beauty in ways they hadn’t seen before, as well as be a part of such important days and events for them. I knew that I would do anything possible to build my business and to pursue this as my career. I am still a new and growing business and learning along the way, but am so proud and thankful for how far I have come!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, especially as I am still growing as a business. I faced a lot of negative reactions from other people and family members when making the decision to pursue makeup artistry as a career. They weren’t confident that I would be able to start my own business and viewed makeup artistry as a “phase”. Some even viewed the profession as “vain” and did not think I was doing enough with my life or making a difference. I had to push through all of those opinions knowing in my heart that it was (and is) what I am meant to do. I focused on the clients I had and how beautiful they looked and felt. I had my smaller circle of people that supported my decisions and knew I could make it, and I surrounded myself with that positive energy. I also thankfully was met with tons of advice and supportive relationships with other makeup artists that I am immensely grateful for and kept me pushing through any bumps in the road! The beauty industry from what I have experienced is very welcoming and I hope it continues to be that way, and that I can be a part that positivity! My biggest piece of advice for others is to follow your gut and don’t let other’s thoughts or opinions get in the way of your dreams.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Amanda Hope Makeup – what should we know?
I am a freelance makeup artist based out of Merrimack, New Hampshire. I specialize in event makeup such as weddings, proms, photo shoots, birthdays or other special events! I also offer lessons to those wanting to learn how to do their makeup on a daily basis or for special occasions. I want every client to leave my chair feeling beautiful and confident. I focus on understanding each person’s vision whether it is bringing out someone’s natural beauty or helping someone express their own style. Makeup is a form of art and self-expression and I aim to help each client feel beautiful both inside and out!

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
The most important piece of advice I can give is to use any negativity as fuel to prove those that don’t believe in you or your decisions wrong. You know yourself better than anyone and I truly believe that with enough motivation anyone can do anything they set their mind to. Find people (whether it is friends, family, or others in your industry) that support you and believe that you can create a career for yourself that makes YOU happy. Believe in yourself and work hard and you will be able to push through any bumps in the road!
