Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommy McInerney.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tommy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started boxing at the age of 18yrs old and started training/teaching boxing about 13 yrs. Ago. Through my years of teaching boxing I have worked with a large variety of Boston’s VIP people from Professional Athletes, Radio/News people, Olympic Gold Medalists, and the A-list people that has built Boston to be a better place and that is what put me on the map. I have a large clientele base that trust me and I believe that is what made me who I am today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have to say teaching boxing was a hobby for me, came easy for me, so there was never any pressure, and not to people can say they love their job. So yes, it has been smooth road.
Fitbox – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I have worked with such a large variety of people in Boston and I have learned that Boxing can be intimating, there is a lot of people out there that always wanted to try it but feels uncomfortable walking into a busy boxing gym. I designed Fitbox that invites all people in to my gym, guaranteeing them to always have a VIP feel and to never feel uncomfortable at any time learning the Sweet Science in Fitbox. Fitbox is a gym that is different from all other boxing gyms because we are all appointment only and we specialize in 1-on-1 mittwork sessions so people are guarantee to get the best full body workout every time they come to a session. I have to say I am proud of this company because all of my clients become friends and I wanted to create a boxing gym business that can still give that old school Boxer/ trainer relationship and that is the feel that everybody gets when they work with me, All my clients have my cell phone and they book their sessions from texting me, which I feel makes life a lot easier for people to workout.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I have to say I have a lot of proud moments and they still keep coming. If you come to my gym you will see the journeys where this sport has taking me from the pictures on the wall, but one that meant a real lot was that my client, former Boston Bruins, Shawn Thornton, flew me up to Toronto to enjoy his Stanley Cup party for the day with the Stanley cup and all his family and friends.
