Meet Tom Shapiro of Stratabeat in Burlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tom Shapiro.

Tom, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I founded Stratabeat seven years ago. The reason for starting a new agency was that I had always enjoyed guiding organizations to growth and wanted to offer an integrated suite of brand strategy, web design, and digital marketing services that would help clients achieve accelerated growth.

Too often, I had found that agencies perceived opportunities for clients only in the prism of their own services. An SEO agency, for example, would often see SEO as the best vehicle for a client’s growth. A design agency would often see a new website as the path to growth. I felt that there was a need for a more holistic type of agency, and that this would produce more significant results for clients.

Prior to Stratabeat, I had worked at Panasonic in Tokyo assisting the organization with international sales. Then it was on to a Boston-based translation company, where as Marketing Manager I helped the firm grow 250%, at which point it was acquired for a multiple of annual revenue. Next, I was responsible for the U.S. go-to-market strategy for a British software localization firm. While there, even in the face of the collapse of the tech bubble we tripled revenue. My next stop was the digital marketing agency, iProspect. I became Director of Digital Strategy, and while there, iProspect grew from 85 to more than 700 employees in five years.

Through each of these experiences, I noticed that the driver of growth was always borne out of rethinking what had been done in the past. And all of this led me to start Stratabeat and to write the book, “Rethink Your Marketing: 7 Strategies to Unleash Revenue Growth.” Now, whether rebranding a business or launching a new responsive website or managing conversion optimization activities, we focus on generating leads and revenue growth for B2B (business-to-business) companies.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been mostly smooth and a tremendous amount of fun currently, but like any business we’ve had our challenges. We once had a client that owed us a good chunk of money but in the end didn’t pay their invoices. Grrr…

We are continually trying to improve and will always strive to do so. Whenever you take on new challenges, there’s always something new to learn. It’s natural to stub your toes occasionally when learning new technologies, building new processes, and growing the business, yet we enjoy focusing on the more important longer-term objectives of achieving our clients’ marketing goals.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Stratabeat – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Stratabeat is a branding, design, and digital marketing agency. We empower midsized B2B companies to increase leads, grow revenue, and achieve more.

Our services include brand strategy, marketing strategy, identity design, web design and development, SEO (search engine optimization), content marketing, PR (public relations), and conversion optimization. In the past year alone, we’ve won 19 design awards.

Everything we do for our clients is based on neuroscience, human psychology, and behavioral science. In addition, we are the founders of a neuromarketing group with close to 400 members. We believe that this science- and data-based approach is more reliable in generating marketing results.

For example:

— We took a startup from zero to seven figures in revenue within a year.
— We took a SaaS company with 50 employees to 250 within two years.
— We helped a large, established agency to double its revenue in the past year.

Our integrated approach to branding and marketing is unique, and we believe enables us to deliver a better customer experience for our clients. Our team members’ experience with market leaders such as Intel, AT&T, Hewlett-Packard, Experian, and P&G is rare among agencies of our size.

Our team has been published in a wide array of industry publications, including Chief Marketer, CMO.com, CNN.com, Forbes, HubSpot Blog, iMedia Connection, Innovation Excellence, Marketing Profs, Media Post, and many others. My book “Rethink Your Marketing: 7 Strategies to Unleash Revenue Growth” was published in 2017. We love to rethink how to achieve the previously unachievable for our clients, and to empower them to grow.
