Today we’d like to introduce you to Tom Meyers.
Tom, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been in the ski industry here in New England for more than 30 years and at Wachusett Mountain for the past 20. After starting my career as a journalist, I combined my communications training with a passion for skiing and had previous positions at Mount Snow and Stratton in Vermont, as well as the Vermont Ski Areas Association.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been fun the entire way. The biggest struggle is the weather but we have no control over that so we figure out how to work with what Mother Nature gives us.
Wachusett Mountain Ski Area – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Wachusett Mountain is the closest major ski area to Boston, Worcester and Providence — known for “Mountain Fun, Minutes Away!” It is known as one of premier small to mid-size ski areas in the country — best known for teaching new skiers and snowboarders with its outstanding Ski School programs. Our location and state-of-the-art facilities and services set us apart.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is a team effort — marketing goes way beyond traditional advertising. Its word of mouth – guests who have a great experience will share that with their friends and family and there’s no better marketing than that.
