Meet Tina Chemini of T.C. Scoops in Southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Chemini.

Tina opened T.C. Scoops in August 2011 after a 25 year career in corporate human resources. After being laid off after her employer was acquired by a private equity firm, Tina decided to throw caution to the wind and pursue her longtime dream of opening an ice cream parlor. T.C. Scoops was modeled after the very first Ben & Jerrys location in Burlington, VT which was a converted gas station, and a coffee shop. Tina’s goal was to create a neighborhood ice cream parlor, where everyone would feel comfortable and welcome. T.C. Scoops moved into a larger location in July of 2016, almost doubling in size. The new space offers more seating, an indoor garden room, and a function room that is available for use by local groups looking for a gathering place.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being an ice cream parlor in Massachusetts, the winters are rough! We are located in a plaza, which requires that we be open year-round. As you can imagine, ice cream sales drop off dramatically after Labor Day so we have had to be very creative to continue to bring in customers even during snow storms!

Please tell us about T.C. Scoops.
We are a gathering point for the people of Medway and surrounding towns. We sell Hershey’s ice cream, which is a great quality product and we are able to offer it at a very reasonable price. We hand make ice cream cakes to order, but also have all kinds and sizes of cakes in our Grab-And-Go freezer. Our mobile ice cream sundae bar is available for hire and will travel to wherever there is a group of people who love ice cream. T.C. Scoops also sells delicious Boars Head hot dogs, steamed to order. We were recently granted a full liquor license by the town of Medway, and are now selling local craft beers, locally made wine from la Cantina winery in Franklin, MA and specialty ice cream cocktails.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing, honestly. I have learned and grown by trial and error, and that is the way to do it.
