Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Bailey and Robert Davol.
Timothy and Robert, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Tim: I was a college art professor for 11 years, but I’ve always been a maker and a fixer.
Rob: I’m a fourth-generation carpenter, and have a degree in music performance.
Yeah, we’re both drummers and had known each other through the music world for years. In 2013 we decided to combine our one-man carpentry operations into one full-service general contracting firm. And here we are five years later with a full crew, great subcontractor partners and many projects we’re really proud of.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning your own business is never a smooth road. The key is to never give up and keep rolling with what’s the best next step. In the winter of 2015 during a vicious snowstorm, the roof collapsed on the wood shop we had just spent the fourth quarter building. We went in the next day and just started putting the pieces back together. We learned a lot from the process and now our studio is even better than before.
Bailey Davol Studio Build – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are design/build in residential and commercial projects. Our creative backgrounds make us a unique partner to homeowners, architects and designers. Our specialties are unique home renovations – attic additions and expansions are something we’ve done a lot of, as well as custom millwork. Built-ins, custom furniture and storage solutions are another specialty because we design and build in our studio, then deliver and install efficiently. Clients like that plug-and play installation so they can get their homes back quickly!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Seeing how happy we’ve made our clients. It’s truly gratifying to push through all of the challenges of a home remodel and still have great relationships with our clients.
