Today we’d like to introduce you to The Fairview.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
The Fairview started as a high school band in a small town in Southeastern Massachusetts, playing mostly small venues, colleges, and talent shows. We had a number of lineup changes as we continued developing and progressing until we recorded our first studio-EP “It Could Be Worse… And It Is” with Jay Maas in Haverhill, MA in the spring of 2017. Later that year, we went on our first ever tour outside of New England with our friends in Familiar Spaces, and it was that summer that we knew we were serious about playing in a touring band as a career, and here we are.
Please tell us about your art.
We tend to genre ourselves along the lines of emo/indie/DIY with an obvious pop-punk feel. We’re very much inspired by 2000s pop punk and contemporaries like The Wonder Years and Modern Baseball, but take influence from genres like classic rock and R&B as well. A prominent theme in our music is mental illness – living with it, how it affects your relationships, how you perceive yourself and others through the lens of that illness. We hope that when people hear our songs, they feel understood by our lyrics and less alone in the world. All we want to do is write energetic and nuanced songs about our realities that feel cathartic and honest. We hope that people can find comfort in them. We’ll be going into the studio early October of this year to record new music.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
We feel the role of the artist has not changed, but has simply become more vital and more in the spotlight. In the new material we’ve written and plan to release, we talk about things we haven’t spoken explicitly in our music about before. We’re not taking it upon ourselves to make grand political statements or whatever, but we feel it’s impossible (and in some ways irresponsible) not to write about the world in the state it’s in.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
We are on nearly every major music platform including Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, etc. Our music is also available for purchase at thefairview.bandcamp.com, and we have an online merch store at thefairviewmerch.bigcartel.com.
