Meet Thai Nguyen of BotoxNbrows in Quincy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thai Nguyen.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I basically grew up in the beauty industry doing nails and skin care, however, the ups and down of a commissioned based job scared me into wanting a more stable job, so I went back to school for nursing; I loved people and was fearless with blood and other amazing discharges nurses often are exposed to! In 2010 I graduated from the first nursing school in New England honored for Center of excellence in nursing education! Boy was that amazing! But of course life throws challenges for you during that time it was very challenging to land a hospital internship with an associate degree and with the birth of my eldest (2 days before RN graduation) I needed more of a flexible position- I somehow landed in esthetics nursing and community health. Working a blend of hours I started too united with my previous career; talking and making my clients feel beautiful- it was so much fun.

Somehow I evolved my services to permanent cosmetics and everything just took off! My years of practice doing nails really paid off drawing “hair like strokes” on people who for whatever problems (hereditary, thyroid, cancer, over plucking) I was now able to draw beautiful brows on my clients! Word of mouth spread and Groupon really helped to take it to the next level- right now I specialize in microblading and softap; fancy terms but all it means is implanting pigment into the top dermal layer of the skin creating a permanent enhanced brows (although yearly touch up is required). I love my art and I love my passion as I believe we all are capable of feeling beautiful- sometimes it requires help of others to pull it out of you!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle I have is finding the balance between family and work. Somehow men don’t have to make a hard decision or feel guilty but as a woman I feel we struggle with this, building a business takes time – your children also take time! I do my best to engage my kids in as many activities as possible – they do Tae Kwon Do, swimming, music and some sports (soccer or tennis). All this takes time, we have limited help so it was really difficult making decisions as to when I can dedicate myself to my art and when to my kids.

Please tell us about BotoxNbrows.
I am well known for my permanent cosmetics: the new term now is microbladding but really his art been around since ancient time, after all, it’s just a hand tool implanting pigment into the skin!

I also do advanced skincare overseas by medical director such as Botox, Medical Grade chemical peel and Hydrafacial MD (I explained to my clients “it’s like a regular facial on steroids” haha)

My clients value me for me! I truly give them the 100% dose of Thai; a little crazy full of laughter totally professional nut! Is there such a thing? But actually, I treat my clients like they are the most important person to me! I value them, I take my time with each appointment, and it doesn’t matter to me if you’re a doctor, a CEO or a house maid (I had all of the above clients! I respect you all the same! That’s the 100% Thai experience).

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My childhood was complex, we were your welfare family shopping in thrifts stores and I always remembered feeling poor! Quincy is pretty big I think I must have lived at each area of Quincy; we were professional movers!!! Never had a home; being poor taught me to fear aging in poverty so I worked extra hard and proved my own success – still have a long way to go but from where I started I definitely improved!
