Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Higgins.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Taylor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Four years ago, while enduring an emotionally, and often times physically abusive relationship with a professional baseball player in the Boston Red Sox organization, I began documenting my dealings in writing to serve as a personal vice. After merely existing in such cloud of mental trauma for two whole years with him by my side as he delivered me to my rock bottom, I then realized my departure from this relationship would be imperative in order to begin my journey back to normality.
It is when I started detailing the events that caused our breakup to others when I realized how common and relatable my truths were. I decided if I could change the world in any way, I’d start by emphasizing the importance of loving purely. What was none other than a diary of poems and notes became my novel, Between The Stitching, crafted simply to inspire?
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I truly enjoyed the writing process of Between The Stitching. It was both satisfying and therapeutic and I remained focused on my end goal at all times – Writing to allow others the opportunity to find courage in my story so they too will speak freely. I wanted to create a movement and Between The Stitching did just that.
Nonetheless, being an Independent Publisher of my first novel was certainly a major learning experience. From Cover Design to Editing, it was all done by me. Writing the story was the easy part.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Between The Stitching story. Tell us more about the business.
Between The Stitching has created a brand of its own kind. It has been identified as a “Survival Guide to Millennial Dating” and I, as the author, am elated to help men and women around the world conquer heartbreak. Experience is everything when it comes to the guidance of emotions and boy, do I have experience. The latest end goal for Between The Stitching is its production into the film.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I felt “lucky” the day I competed in and won my first ever pageant, Miss Teen Massachusetts 2013, after the owner of the boutique convinced me to compete two months prior. I felt “lucky” earning a spot on the NHL Boston Bruins Ice Girls team during my first audition at eighteen years old. I do not believe, however, Between The Stitching’s development and the business I’ve created behind it is a case of “She Got Lucky” at all.
In fact, I only wrote about this particular relationship to escape my disturbing reality. I produced a 371-page non-fiction entirely on my own and its successes have stemmed from my desire to be uncomfortably honest. The truth is, we generate our own luck. Don’t ever wait for its arrival.
