Meet Taylor Capaldo of Lavish Salon in East Providence

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Capaldo.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my hairdressing career by attending Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy in Cranston, RI in 2009. After I completed the program, I started to do hair at home instead of in a salon, while I worked my other full-time job as a nanny. About 4 years later I started in a salon setting. I loved being in a salon and loved building a clientele. I love people, and I love making people happy, so being a hairdresser just made me feel like I was made for this industry. I worked very hard as a hairdresser, always staying up to date with new trends and involving myself with as much education as possible. I had been through a few different salons before I had found the salon I would consider home. I started at Lavish Salon in December of 2016 and have been doing hair for about 8 years now and couldn’t be happier. I have grown a great clientele and have learned so much in such a short amount of time. The owner of Lavish Salon, Alisha Rodrigues, had required that I become a specialist in curly cuts, as she is Deva Cut certified, and had a huge curly clientele. That is when I fell in love with curly hair! I finally understood curly hair and was excited to share what I learned with my clients, while helping them feel comfortable with their curls. I enjoy going to my job every morning, working with my coworkers who I consider family, and making people feel beautiful I am now the manager at Lavish Salon, and continue to grow as a stylist and business partner every day.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Let’s be honest, nothing ever goes smoothly, haha! I have had some ups and downs trying to find a salon that I felt comfortable in. In this industry, you really must be confident while building your clientele, because if you do not like the salon that you are working in, you need to make sure your clients will follow you wherever you decide to go. I am very lucky and have had quite a few clients follow me wherever I decided to settle. Unfortunately, you lose some clients along the way, but it is great knowing that you will always have your loyal clients no matter what. Building a clientele takes time, but you must be confident and consistent, and you will succeed.

Lavish Salon – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Lavish Salon is a trendy, upscale salon in the city of East Providence, RI. I am the manager as well as a stylist and make-up artist. I specialize in curly hair, fashion colors and balayages. I am extremely proud to work for this salon. We are very well known and have a huge following on social media. I most certainly love what I do, and you can see that in the way that I treat my clients, making sure that they are always satisfied. I love making people happy and love a positive environment for my clients and my coworkers. This industry can get very snobby, but I am a very outgoing, genuine, positive person and I never let negativity interfere with my work. My client’s satisfaction is my number one priority. I will do anything for my clients and they are very appreciative of that. I put them first, always listen, and always make sure they feel fabulous when they leave my chair, and I think that is what sets me apart from some others.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment of my career so far has probably been how successful and how much I have grown in this past year at Lavish Salon. I have had my work featured on many Instagram pages and stories such as Joico, CosmoProf, Guy Tang, Olaplex, and Deva Curl, and a few others. I also had a picture of a client’s hair that I did go viral on Facebook which was super awesome. I feel like I am constantly growing as a stylist and it gets very exciting when you see yourself succeed and become acknowledged.
