Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Blanco.
Tatiana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in La Coruna, Spain. Growing up in a family of seven siblings I was always trying to figure where I fit in. As a teenager I was always fascinated by the arts and enjoyed exploring my creativity in different mediums. I wanted to paint and grow up to be a successful artist. My parents encouraged my dreams so they send me to America to learn a second language and pursue my artistic dreams. At seventeen I moved to Boston enrolled in English classes and I began my creative journey. Shortly after my arrival and feeling more comfortable with my grasp of the English language, I applied to The Art Institute of Boston and joined my brother where he was studying. It was my best friend and brother who introduced me to photography. I fell in love with the art form and along with the support of my family who encouraged me to follow my passion and pursue a career as a photographer. I picked my first camera in 1996, put together a portfolio and enrolled in The Art Institute of Boston. After four years of intensive class studies, I finished school and received a BFA in Photography.
To help support myself through school I began apprenticing with many photographers and printers. Like a sponge, I absorbed everything I could from anyone who was willing to take me under their wing. Throughout my education and the few years that followed, it was clear where this journey was taking me. TATIANA BLANCO PHOTOGRAPHY was born. Like many photographers interested in documentary photography I had big dreams of traveling the world and photographing for National Geographic. A friend of mine knew I was trying to get my business off the ground and asked me to photograph her wedding. I was skeptical at first because someone’s wedding is a very memorable time in their life. I did photograph the wedding. The experience was beautiful, to be surrounded with people at such a wonderful time in their lives, I was hit with a life changing realization. I wanted to work with people! Every person is special in their own way. I enjoy finding the beauty with people and capturing it on film. I have been fortunate to meet people from all walks of life many of whom I remain in contact with. From photographing expectant mothers, graduations, corporate, head shots, weddings and engagements, I have seen such beauty and love. It is not just taking a photo but the entire process, from the first meeting, until the photos are delivered is a great journey.
Photography fulfills my life!
There is no greater feeling than to be able to bring happiness to others through my passion in photography.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not smooth at all. I had to put my passion on a break to work for other people and other fields so I would be able to get my green card. After 10 years of a break, it has been a lot of work, learning new technologies and marketing for this new generation. Although I am super happy and full of passion to keep advancing on my career I feel I am behind of where I should I be. I love to keep challenging me and always keep learning from everyone and everything.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tatiana Blanco Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a wedding, event and portrait photographer. I love people, I am super social and friendly, and probably one of the things I am known for. I can walk to a perfect stranger and made that person be my friend. I am intrigued about any individual I see, their lives, their stories.
I love to photograph big events such as wedding, galas and corporate. My most favorite though is weddings. I love to connect and learn about a couple who is strange at first but I feel I known them forever after the wedding. It pushes my artistic sense. I can get creative and have fun with it.
What sets me apart from others is how much I care about my clients and my work. I do not see this as a money maker I care about people and their experience with me. I care, help, feel and I am there every step of the way. I know many people would say the same about their business but I have worked with many other photographers and I do not see this. This love and sense of commitment to do the absolute best at every job I do.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plan is to keep developing not only as a business but as an artist. I want to be actually proud of the work I do. I want to see at my photographs and say I am very proud of the photographs I take. I feel there will be always room for improvement and I will always would want to get better. I want to keep working hard and making people happy with my work.
I want to keep connecting with clients and people in the industry. I think is so important to establish relationships and getting to know amazing people who can add to your goal.
I recently joined NACE and ILEA and I hope great things will come of it.
