Meet Tasha Marie of Ambitious Ink Presents

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasha Marie.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tasha Marie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My eighth grade AP English teacher once told me “you’re an awesome writer so don’t be cheap with your words. Tell your story.” I guess that’s always kind of stuck with me. I’ve always loved to write poems and short stories. I’ve dreamed of actually completing a novel and for years through high school I would start writing a book but never complete it.

Something wasn’t right or I would become unmotivated to finish the story. I then became infatuated with reading urban fiction. I would read about three books a day. It wasn’t until my publisher, Chyna L., whom I went to elementary school with, completed her second book when I thought to myself, “Well, hey, if she can do it so can I.”

Seeing someone from the same neighborhood as me reaching for the starts motivated me to not only start writing a novel but to actually finish it. I did it. I now have 7 books written and published in a little over a year. I did it. I never thought people would want to read a book from a simple girl from Roxbury but somewhere someone is reading a Tasha Marie novel and it feels amazing to know that.

Has it been a smooth road?
What most people don’t realize is writing a book means way more than putting a pen to paper or clicking away at the keys on a laptop. It can be mentally draining when you’re dealing with other aspects in your life. Honestly, I had no idea working full time, being a full-time mother and author would be this challenging but it is.

When you come up with a storyline and begin to write, the ideas flow like water. It’s a wonderful feelings. But sometimes life gets in the way and takes precedence over writing. I could go weeks without opening my notebook or laptop because I’m dealing with real life issues with work or my daughter.

Sometimes the characters I’m writing about aren’t “talking to me” enough which could hold up the creative process in completing a book. So no lol it hasn’t been a smooth road and I’m still fairly new to the writing industry. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon but balancing everything while trying to keep a creative spark is definitely a challenge.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m currently signed under Ambitious Ink Presents which is more than a publishing company. It’s a brand. Not only do we write books, we sell T-Shirts that are related to our books and the brand as well as travel mugs and other merchandise. Based out of Boston, MA but destined for the world to see.

I’m most proud to be the first author signed to Ambitious Ink. I say that because Chyna believed in me and my talent enough to represent her brand. The first five-star book published was mine (Small City, BIG Dreams). I’ll forever be proud as well as grateful to her for taking a chance with me. Ambitious Ink Presents is unlike other publishing companies simply because we don’t follow trends. From our book covers down to the storylines, we’re unique.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I definitely feel as though the support level in Boston could be a lot better. I don’t just mean the support of just myself. There are so many talented people in Boston from writing to music to dancing. We’re all meant to shine. The problem is no one wants to support each other because everyone is in competition with one another and they don’t even realize it.

Yes, a lot of folks including myself tend to say Boston is small but imagine if we all showed support to each other. There’s no telling how far we could go and how proud we could make the city of Boston. A great support system always equals success.
