Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Norton.
Josh, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story begins at the age of eight where I first held a camera in my hands and found my passion for video production. Video came naturally to me and over the years I developed my skills by volunteering and interning for production companies. These were often low budget film sets where I would spend my time learning from independent business people. I was influenced by these individuals who owned their own equipment and could work for themselves.
Here I am now, years later, an independent content creator who strives to establish myself and my work in a competitive market place. I got to where I am today because of mentors, teachers, coaches, and people I have met along the way. I have created relationships with local business people, such as photographers, DJ companies, and event planners, who have believed in me and recommended me for further projects. I am a part of what feels like a local work family, great people that work together to create incredible events.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any small businesses have had a smooth road and I am a big believer that failure leads to success. It took time for me to understand my value and find confidence in my work and my prices. Also, technology is always changing and I have to stay knowledgeable and invest in new equipment to stay at the top of my game. The smooth road takes time to build, that is for sure and how you handle the struggles of getting there are what defines you and your business and makes you earn and appreciate it.
Please tell us about Tanner Video Productions and Events.
I am a videographer and content producer, who specializes in capturing events, specifically Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, weddings, and videos for local and big businesses. I create content all over the New England area and I am most proud of my ability to highlight my client’s achievements and celebrations. I am able to capture some of the happiest moments of people’s lives and I am proud to be a part of those life experiences. I additionally enjoy working with small and large businesses to create promotional content. There are many people that I look up to in this business and my hope is that I am aligning with their productions skills as opposed to setting myself apart from them. I am constantly inspired by the filmmaking community around us and I never stop learning and improving my skills. In video production, work ethic is vital to a successful business. There is always more work to be done, room for improvement, and further opportunities to be had.
Who else deserves credit – have you had mentors, supporters, cheerleaders, advocates, clients or teammates that have played a big role in your success or the success of the business? If so – who are they and what role did they plan / how did they help?
My parents deserve a lot of credit. They are my everything. They are my biggest supporters and I could not have done any of this without them. I wouldn’t have had access to the education or equipment without their support, plus my father has played a major role helping with business logistics. Additionally, there have been numerous supporters, mentors, teachers, and coaches who have helped me over time, especially when I was first starting out. A lot of people gave me opportunities and believed in me and my future and for that I am forever grateful.
