Meet Tamar Rosenblatt of A Beautiful Corset

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamar Rosenblatt.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2008, I had purchased my first Vollers corset and just loved it. When I realized nobody was selling their beautiful line in the US, I called the owners in London and asked if they would train me. It took me two years to learn their 52 corset styles. I learned everything about their measurements, fabrics, and which figures were most flattered by each style. When I opened my shop in 2010, I was the only corset showroom displaying the entire Vollers corset line. All these years later, I still am. I am a professional corset fitter. I see clients by appointment only and when I see a client, I teach them everything they never knew they wanted to know about corsets. I love what I do. I teach individuals and couples what makes a well-constructed corset, how to tell if they are wearing the most flattering style, and the most comfortable fit. I train them to self-lace and partner lace. It’s a job I love because love what we do here.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The challenge in the beginning was learning a very extensive line of varied corset styles, and matching the right style with every figure so the client could see themselves in the most flattering fit. At first, I thought I would sell the line on a website but I learned very quickly that consumers didn’t know how to buy the best corset for their needs and I was taking a LOT of returns. Once I decided to open a shop, I began to see how buying a real corset must be done with a professional fitter who knows how to flatter every figure. It wasn’t easy all the time, but it sure has been a lot of fun!

A Beautiful Corset – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
A Beautiful Corset sells the Vollers line of corsets exclusively. The Vollers family is 5th generation corsetieres in the UK. They have been making these beautiful garments since the 1800’s. Here in the states I am the only company that carries their entire line and I am the only person trained completely by the Vollers family to be a Vollers fitter. I specialize in custom work, with an amazingly fast turn-around considering each piece is hand made in the UK. All of our orders are submitted on Sundays, to be made up on Mondays and Tuesday at the Vollers workshop. Our orders are shipped on Wednesdays every week and arrive with us by the following Mondays. It’s an amazingly fast and impressive custom boutique service and people come from all over the United States to be fitted with us. It’s really fantastic to be a part of such a reputable organization but the thing I am most proud of really is that we offer a 100% guarantee on every corset we sell, and that’s just unheard of in the industry. Corsets take a lot of wear and tear by their wearers and off the rack, or lesser quality corsets can look a real mess after just a couple wears but a Vollers corset is made to last a lifetime, and they guarantee it will. I just love telling my clients that!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The moments I am most proud about the work I do, is actually a little different than you might expect. I work with couples quite a lot. It’s my most popular fitting appointment, for couples to come here together for a corset fitting. It’s usually a birthday gift, special anniversary or a romantic date. They come for the private fashion show that happens while I am finding the most flattering fit for every figure. It’s an intimate and romantic experience to buy a beautiful corset together and also learn how to lace together. For me, it’s really something to share these typically private moments between couples. The appointment becomes an experience for each person and they really enjoy the time spent learning together about something they are really doing for each other. I love teaching a partner how they can assist in the lacing process. It’s a great moment for me, when both start out unsure, feeling like they might not be able to manage but within minutes are working together so well, they sometimes forget I’m even in the room anymore. It makes me smile. It makes me proud of the work I do.

I have been there when Tammy was helping my daughter pick out a corset. She is such a freindly supportive person. I know women can be selfconscious about their bodies. Tammy, in a very short time, puts you at ease and lets you feel completly beautiful as all women are.
