So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Originally from Toronto, I moved to Boston to pursue an optometric residency at the New England College of Optometry (NECO). After my residency, I was offered a faculty position and eventually appointed Director of Admissions. While at NECO, I continued to practice optometry and see patients in South Boston. In 2014, the opportunity to open my own optometry practice arose. I seized the opportunity and opened Wink Eyecare in my beloved Southie.
Has it been a smooth road?
I have been fortunate to have served the Southie community for over 15 years. When I opened Wink Eyecare in 2014, I was welcomed with open arms. My patients returned and helped me spread the word. It was extremely encouraging. It also helped that my husband is an attorney and entrepreneur, who gave me great advice in helping me make critical business decisions.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Wink Eyecare story. Tell us more about the business.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The increasing risk of developing various eye disorders, such as cataract, glaucoma, refractive and binocular problems, is expanding the demand for personalized optometric care. The good news is that technological advanced treatments and therapies are improving vision care. Meanwhile, insurance coverage for eye exams is expanding, including pediatric benefits. While on-line sales are increasing, customers still prefer the personal attention eye care providers, such as Wink Eyecare, provide. In addition, frame manufacturers, especially a growing number of award-winning independents, are creating beautiful high-fashion options. The future for patients and customers is very encouraging.
