Today we’d like to introduce you to Talia Don.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I came with my Husband and my first daughter 22 years ago from Israel. I Started to do Ph.D. in Theater at Tufts University.
After one semester I had my second daughter. Even though I wanted to go back to the program, my husband and father convinced me to change fields and i switched to computers!! I worked for EMC for three years (had my third daughter!). While working there I lost my favorite necklace that loved and I wanted to re create it. I went to a bead store in Israel and bought a lot of beads.
I remember siting on the floor and making the necklace. I never took a jewelry class in my life (up until today and I bought jewelry magazines to try to teach myself hope to do them. I fell in love with the art of design, and my husband, who told me to take sis month to see what I can do with it. I have been designing for 13 years. I sold to Bloomingdale and now I sell to Neiman Marcus and other jewelry stores.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it wasn’t! Had to teach myself how to make jewelry. Making the jewelry was in one point the easy thing selling it and marketing it was another challenged. Never took a business class in my life. everything a learned was “from the streets”. Learned that it is ok to fall and it is ok to step back. you only come stronger!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I like to work with different materials. Most of the time I don’t know what i going to design and I let the materials” talk to me”. Most of the designs are one of a kind. People also bring old necklaces that they inherent or bought a long time ago and I re-design them.
I only see clients by appointment only. I like to give attention to each one. For me it is the relationship first and jewelry second :).
I am blessed to meet amazing people in my studio and work. I don’t take it for granted. To do something that you love is a big privileged! The way for me to s “say thank you” to this privilege was by volunteering at the Children’s Hospital at the Cardiology unit and do jewelry with the kids!!!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I live in an amazing neighborhood. In one hand we have women that are very successful and want to look great. On the other hand, we have people that want to support the local business and make them thrive.
