Meet Suzanne Golden of Golden Speech Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne Golden.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been practicing in the field of speech pathology since 2008. I began working in a private practice on the North Shore and really loved working in that setting. In 2009, my husbands job moved to the south shore and I found a job as a speech pathologist in the public schools. I enjoyed this setting but missed private practice. After 4 years working in the public schools I began to explore the idea of private practice again. Golden Speech Therapy first opened its doors in August of 2013 and has been growing since then.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have been married to my husband Andrew for 10 years and we have two children, Callie (7) and AJ (3).

Juggling family and owning a business has not been easy. I often feel like the demands of being a working mother are even more magnified when you also own your own business. However, being a mother also gives me a unique perspective when dealing with the children and families that I work with.

I can often sympathize with families who are dealing with various issues because I’ve been there too. I’m able to provide advice for parents that is easily applicable to their busy lives because I am living that life too. I think parents appreciate this connection and it allows us to form a better bond, which creates a better environment for therapy.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Golden Speech Therapy provides diagnostic and therapy services for children of all ages. Some disorders we specialize in are: Speech sounds disorders, expressive/receptive language disorders, pragmatic language disorders, childhood apraxia of speech and early intervention.

The services we provide are unique from most therapy children receive in the public schools or through early intervention programs because all of our services are provided by licensed speech-language pathologists in a one-on-one setting. Our clients are brought to see us at our office by one of their caregivers, which allows us to provide consultation and support to the family at every visit. Providing therapy in a one-on-one setting allows the child to have the full, individualized attention of the SLP which promotes a good client/SLP relationship and promotes progress.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up north of Boston with my parents and two brothers. My parents owned an unfinished furniture store for over 20 years. A large part of my childhood was spent watching my parents working hard and growing their business. I think this helped lay the groundwork for me to become an entrepreneur myself.
