Meet Sutji Prasetiowati

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sutji Prasetiowati.

Sutji, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Ever since I was little, I’ve always loved fashion. I remember back when I was in college and my roommate would always ask me for fashion advice. so for the longest time, I’ve wanted to start my own fashion blog on Instagram. I did have doubts, I feel so inadequate seeing all these glamorous bloggers who seem to have perfect lives and have everything put together. After a little encouragement from my brother, I decided to give it a try. I decided to share my love of fashion with a little twist. If you follow me on Instagram, you will find that most of my posts are about fashion, but I also share the realness of life that I face, I experience heartbreak, failure, and losses like everybody else, but despite all of that, I convey messages of hope, positivity, and courage. None of my photos are perfectly edited, as this is the message that I would like to share with my followers, that I can relate with their lives.

As a fashion enthusiast, I love to create beautiful things and share my creativity with others. My dream is to have my own business and become financially independent one day. I took a leap of faith and that’s how my graphic tee line business was born two months ago. Now, I have my own line on Etsy.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all, there are many times where I feel like giving up, I feel like I am getting there very slowly by doing all the right things but then I see bloggers who are doing a different kind of things to get ahead, I feel defeated. Sometimes, I feel like I am not good enough. They say that comparison is a thief of joy but is so hard not to compare yourself to your peers, especially in this social media world where everything is a number game. The bigger you are, the better. One thing I am trying to focus on right now is just enjoying the ride and staying true to myself, to always do the right thing and let everything else follow. Being in the clothing business, you have to constantly be learning. You have to get out of your comfort zone and constantly market yourself and being an introvert, the idea of talking to people and putting myself out there at times was terrifying.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am about sharing affordable, yet quality fashion. I am not into luxury stuff or high fashion, that’s just not my brand, I live for bargains. Being a single parent, I have a strict budget and I am not willing to go into debt to just impress people. I’ve always believed that you don’t need to spend a fortune to look good. You will find a good quality product at an affordable price when you shop in my Etsy store because I want my product to be accessible to everyone. Giving back is also a big part in what I believe in, so I’ve partnered with my friend’s non-profit organization LGLPmissions.com. I donate a proceed of profits to help their mission.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
There is always something to do in Boston. Boston is a melting pot, I love the diversity, the culture and all the good schools that we have here. I am a proud BU parent as my son is a freshman there.

I wish we had more affordable housing in the city and it’s so hard to find parking there.
