Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Levy.
Steven, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in a family Electroplating Business. I went on the payroll in 1977 at age 16 during a work study program in High School. I worked in every aspect of the business eventually becoming the Vice President.
We closed the business in 2004 as work was leaving the country and going overseas. I could not get Chrome Plating done for my vintage vehicles anywhere locally. My wife said to me one day in 2013 “Why don’t you open our own Chrome Plating Business?” I took her Suggestion, rolled the dice and have become very successful with this startup.
We have virtually no competition from Canada to Connecticut and do work for people all over the country. Just about all of our customers come to us by recommendations from others, we don’t advertise other than our website.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a surprisingly smooth road, when you are not really competing against others and you do a good job you reap the rewards.
The biggest struggle is finding employees. Most plating companies have all but disappeared and getting young men willing to work hard from the bottom and work their way up and interested in working with their hands is becoming very difficult.
Please tell us about American Electroplating Company.
American Electroplating specializes in doing what others cannot do. We do a lot of restoration work for irreplaceable parts for Cars, Motorcycles, Marine, Household, Antiques, and ECT.
