Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Marrero-Wilson.
Stephanie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Beneath the Beauty came together because of my love for makeup and mental health. Having worked in Human Services for 10 years and modeling/makeup artistry for almost 10 years as well, I wanted to bring to two worlds together. I’ve battled with depression and anxiety for 16 years and both fields have taught me how to cope and utilize makeup artistry and photography as a coping skill. My goal is to work with people of all ages and help them find the Beauty underneath their everyday battles. Our mission is to teach self-care and inspire self-love. Our drive comes from our 3 kids especially our 2 year old daughter. She’s been battling a chronic kidney disease called Nephrotic syndrome and we hope to develop a foundation for her that supports other families dealing
with this same illness.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has been a learning curve for us because it’s something we are carrying on our backs. However, it’s so rewarding to see the growth we have made so far. Being a faith based family having faced so many battles, it’s easy to lose sight of your goals and motivation. For us, we continue pushing through and working for success.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Beneath the Beauty – what should we know?
Beneath the Beauty represents so much more than makeup and photography. We work with our clients on a very personal level and aspire to develop long term relationships with them. I offer makeup lessons on a 1-to-1 basis and provide therapeutic support around anxieties and different barriers they may experience outside of simple makeup application. Our photography is very family based and we offer the opportunity to chronicle important chapters in people’s lives such as; pregnancy, the 1st year of a child’s life, holidays etc. With the micro blading we always include the opportunity for a family/solo photoshoot after the brows are all healed because we’ve found that there’s a sudden boost of confidence and we want to empower that. Beneath the Beauty is more about bringing what’s inside to the surface and shining bright.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Empathy, motivation, hardworking and nurturing. Our environment is meant to be relaxing and therapeutic for everyone who comes to see us. Being able to empathize with someone is probably the most valuable characteristic we strive for.
