Today we’d like to introduce you to Silviya Mihaylova.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Silviya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Several years ago, when I looked around the Boston, I saw, on the one hand, traditional corporate gyms, and on the other, boutique studios that would focus on a single discipline.
I wanted to create a place that would incorporate a variety of disciplines based upon new scientific approaches, a place where people could feel comfortable about being themselves, without the need for pretense or fear of being judged, and who enjoy getting healthy and fit together.
My idea for Swet Studio was that it would not be stagnant, but always evolving with the science of health and fitness. Variety not only keeps things fresh and exciting, but allows the body to be worked out in different ways for faster, safer results.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We completely remolded the interior space of 480 Tremont Street for the studio. It was a labor of love – not to mention permitting and contracting.
When I first moved in, the space had previously been occupied by a computer lab. There were drop ceilings, like being in an office, and windows had long since been blocked and covered. One of the first things we did was to open up the windows to let the light flow in and remove the false ceiling to reveal the true height of the lofty ceiling.
We wanted to create an open, airy, inviting environment. With concrete walls, black metal columns, and an old industrial feel, the space was re-purposed to embrace different types of classes.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Swet Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
Swet Studio is a local, group class fitness studio in the South End that specializes in Aerial Yoga, indoor rowing, HIIT, small group training, and guided mediation.
We offer Boston’s only licensed AntiGravity® aerial yoga and AIRbarre® classes. Our aerial instructors are all certified in the aerial approach and technique. Swet Studio™ also offers a floating, guided mediation class, where participants can relax and experience the calm of guided meditation, while cocooned in floating silk.
Swet Studio also offers a variety of indoor rowing classes. Indo-Row, provides a heart pumping workout synced to motivating music. This is a great alternative to spin classes or other forms of cardio because in addition to burning calories, it builds strength, stamina, and whole body muscle tone. Some of our other group fitness classes range from Hip Hop Booty Shaking Yoga to a variety of HIIT and core strengthening classes.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am a strong believer that you make your own luck, both good and bad. With that said, I have been very fortunate to have the support of not only the South End community, but some truly amazing members at the studio, with diverse backgrounds from all walks of life.
