Today we’d like to introduce you to Sigal Bar-Gill.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sigal. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a Health Coach Nutritionist working with people that want to improve their health whether it’s by losing weight, being more physically active, reducing stress levels or all of the above.
I’ve been a certified Health Coach for the past 10 years. Before that, it seems like I have always struggled with my weight. I tried many types of diets, lost weight, gained weight, and basically didn’t know what to eat, how and when. I was at a loss for many years until I finally found the IIN (The Institute for Integrative Nutrition in NYC). I became a Health Coach and I could finally help myself & my family, and make a profession out of it as well.
My clients are individuals, couples and families that are interested in getting healthier mostly by losing weight, but also by being more fit & toned, and living stress-free. I show them how they can make gradual changes in their daily lives, and daily habits (I call them twicks & tricks and they are different for each one), until they become habitual with life-long positive effects.
In my approach, there are NO DIETS, NO HUNGER, NO CRAVINGS & NO COUNTING CALORIES. I just show how to eat right, how to be more physically active (finding the right type of exercise that suits each one), how to reduce unhealthy habits to a minimum, and how to relieve stress. This is a very individualistic hands-on approach.
Aside from working with clients, I also give talks and presentations in community centers, private events and webinars. I talk about health & nutrition, and give tips on how to mindlessly lose weight by making small changes around the house and at work.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it hasn’t. It’s very hard acquiring new clients. I spend a lot of money on ads (social networks), yelp and Thumbtack, but customer acquisition cost has become so expensive that it’s not worth it any more. I guess the competition in the Boston area is too big. There are many other Health Coaches, graduates of the IIN just like me that are located in this area. My struggle, I guess, is to get my website noticed, to get my name out there, and get enough clients so that I’ll get new clients just by word of mouth. That hasn’t happened yet.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sigal Bar-Gill, Health Coach – what should we know?
I work with people that mainly want to lose weight, maintain their weight, improve their health and get more fit & toned.
I don’t have an office. We meet in different cafes and restaurants, looking at different menus and showing my clients how to choose wisely from all the options. We go to the supermarket together and I show them how to shop wisely. We also work out together at gyms or just walk around the park. Mine is a very individualistic hands-on approach.
I also have had clients from Israel, Miami and NYC (communicating via Skype/FaceTime).
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Most important is to be able to sell yourself to prospective clients, and to be able to retain current clients.
