Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelley Rae Schiloski.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shelley Rae. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We are a shared professional executive office facility with 46 offices. We provide reception, administrative support, and cater to our tenants Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 5:00, although tenants have 24/7 access. I started at The Suites almost 8 years ago as a receptionist with very little office skills. The owner at that time took me under her wing and taught me a great deal. A little more than three years ago, I was promoted to General Manager. She has since sold the business and I now run the business for the new owners of The Suites. I am responsible for marketing, leasing, overseeing all administrative support, broker agreements and accounting. I’ve come a long way and love my job!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I was a stay at home mom before working at The Suites and I actually lied at my interview, stating that I was comfortable with computer work. After the interview, I immediately bought software to teach myself how to type, and teach myself a basic understanding of Word and Excel. A year later, I confessed my lie to the owner and we had a good laugh.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are not a franchise, but are owner-operated. Our tenants feel our atmosphere is less “institutional” and more flexible than other executive suites tend to be.
Our License and Service Agreement has a ninety-day release clause, which most other shared offices don’t have. It means having the flexibility to terminate the Agreement with nothing more than written ninety-day notice. The building has 24/7 access, and parking in the garage is free and abundant. We have offices ranging from $550 to $2098/month. Base monthly rent includes: receptionist services; parking; light office cleaning; maintenance; utilities; kitchen facilities; complimentary coffee/tea; complementary conference room usage (four hours per month, per office); and, full office furnishings of a desk, credenza, executive chair, two guest chairs; bookcases and lateral file cabinets are also available upon request.
It is simply, a really nice place to work.
What were you like growing up?
I was a timid child, sometimes afraid of my own shadow so the fact that I run a business and negotiate leases with often large corporations is quite funny. I grew up in a middle class family that taught me values with an emphasis on always being fair. I carry that with me. I pride myself on how I conduct business – I always play fair.
