Meet Dr. Shawn Kim of Ace Dental Boston in Hyde Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Shawn Kim. His team shared his story with us.

After graduating with honors from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, Dr. Kim then attended San Francisco VA Medical Center for advanced training. Dr. Kim moved to Boston 5 years ago to support his wife’s study and settled in Boston instead of going back to California because he saw New England as a great place to raise his family.

Dr. Kim purchased this practice, now Ace Dental Boston, in August of 2016. The office itself has been in the neighborhood for generations under previous ownership by a few different dentists over time and has the longest history of dental practices in Hyde Park. Dr. Kim saw that purchasing the practice would be a great opportunity given the location and the sense of strong community surrounding the office. Dr. Kim was fully dedicated to making Ace Dental Boston THE place to go for anyone looking for quality and personalized dental care.

Once Dr. Kim became the owner of the practice, He renamed it Ace Dental Boston and began revitalizing the practice to ensure it reached its fullest potential. Dr. Kim took the time and care to research and then invest in whatever changes were necessary to meet the demand of current and future patients. Dr. Kim and his team were able to provide a remarkable patient experience to all of his valuable patients by combining his clinical skill set with exceptional patient care from start to finish.

Dr. Kim and the team established Ace Dental Boston’s mission and core values to reflect the needs of a diverse group of dental patients in order to truly become a patient driven practice. With the input of our team members, Dr. Kim was able to invest in making Ace Dental Boston a relaxing, beautiful, and comfortable dental environment with state-of-the-art advanced technology that would allow all of our patients to feel right at home as soon as they enter the practice.

Overall, Dr. Kim’s goals are to always be providing excellent oral healthcare and the ultimate patient experience to all. By building long lasting and trusting relationships with our patients and community, Dr. Kim and the team make sure that everyone experiences exceptional dentistry and care at Ace Dental Boston.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In order for Ace Dental Boston to become what it is today, there were a few obstacles and challenges that Dr. Kim had to overcome. When Dr. Kim purchased the practice, his first priority was to build relationships with the current patients of the practice. He understood that the transition for patients would be something new after decades of them seeing the previous dentist. Fortunately Dr. Kim was able to establish the trust of the current patients very quickly. With the veteran staff on board, he was able to retain almost 100% of the current patients, which is rare in the field of dentistry where statistics show most transitions can result in the loss of 30-40% of the current patient base.

Another challenge was the daunting task of transforming the office from its traditional. Older style into a newer, modern, state-of-the-art and advanced private practice. He moved from paper charts to a virtually paperless office and brought in newer technology and equipment to ensure that his patients received the best the field has to offer. That being said, Dr. Kim still felt it was important to keep around the good, core values of traditional dentistry and that the combination of the newer technology and advancements would complement that perfectly at Ace Dental Boston.

Being able to overcome these obstacles and challenges has been a blessing in disguise because it pushed Ace Dental Boston to become a stronger practice that can better serve its patients.

Please tell us about Ace Dental Boston.
Ace Dental Boston is a general dentistry practice that sees children, adults, and the elderly. Our team is highly skilled and able to offer a wide range and variety of services conveniently all in house! We do it all, from routine exams, x-rays, and cleanings to fillings, root canals, whitening, Invisalign, extractions, and implants. In fact, one of our many strengths includes specializing in implants. Due to our passion for cosmetic and implant dentistry, Dr, Kim has extensive experience with restoring the smiles of patients with complex dental issues. Additionally, every year he devotes a significant amount of time to taking continuing education courses so that he can always ensure that patients receive the highest level of dental care possible.

Dr. Kim is most proud of being confident that Ace Dental Boston always provides his patients with exceptional service in a personal and relaxed environment.
