Meet Shannon Rivera of Through My Lenz Photography in North Reading

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Rivera.

Shannon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am the mother to the light of my life, Zachary! My 13 y/o baby boy 🙂 Wife to my darling husband Rey, Aunty/Guardian of my sweet nephew Aiden, Aunty to my 3 beautiful nieces Kailynn, Brianne and Madyson and nephew Logan, Daughter to my beautiful parents Debby and Bobby. It is all of them that makes me the person I am today!

I will not say that photography has always been a passion of mine because I didn’t know it was until my husband bought me a nice camera about 6 years ago! I played around with it, did some sessions for friends and family, after that was when I realized my drive and want to learn more about my camera and how it worked. I was unstoppable after this! My passion surfaced and my knowledge had no limits! This was it, what I had been searching for so many years. I truly believe that anyone can see this passion in my work with the entire experience of having a photo session with me! Easy going, down to earth, love having fun and creating a story for you with my images that bring you back to that very moment every time you look at them!

I am a creative, artist, photographer and friend! I absolutely adore what I do as my career. I love taking my thoughts and turning them into a reality. I strive for perfection with each and every session all while making it unique to your style and personality.

To me it isn’t just a picture, it’s a story to tell, your story!!! I’m just there to capture it!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course there have been struggles and hurdles to overcome and I’m sure there will be more. When opening my studio in 2013 I had many reservations. How will I make enough money to make sure I had enough business to pay the rent, utilities, props and to better myself as a photographer. Will I have time to be a business owner, photographer, mother, wife and everything else I already was. Along with the support of my amazing husband and son I knew I could conquer my goal so I went for it! Some months were harder than others but no matter what I knew I had to keep on going to achieve my dream.

Over the past four almost 5 years I have built the most amazing clientele. It is because of them I continue to persevere. Without them I would not be where I am today.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Through My Lenz Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
When starting out, I wasn’t sure what part of photography I really loved. I knew I loved learning all about my camera, how it works and how to achieve those beautiful images but what images did I love capturing the most?! It took me a couple years but I found what makes my heart the happiest. Newborns! My pride, my heart, my soul is capturing those little baby toes, the sweet round nose, tiny fingers and chubby rolls. I dedicated years of training to perfect my newborn safety and posing. Traveling around to different states to train from the worlds most renowned newborn photographers. I truly feel my newborn photography sets me apart from others because of my knowledge, my passion and pride I take in each and every session.

Watching these babies grow into these beautiful little people makes my heart melt. I am truly blessed each and every time a family chooses me to create beautiful memories of their new babies because we all know these special moments go by way to fast.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m not sure luck has played any role in my business life or personal. I believe things are the way they should be. Our lives and paths have been planned for us far before we came into this world. I believe everything good that has happened is a true blessing.
