Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Thatcher.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Scott. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I first got interested in Photography when I started high school. I was unable to participate in sports and the school required me to do an afternoon activity. So Photography became it. This was in the days of film. I learned all the basics from rolling my own film canisters to developing the film, and finally printing those images from the negatives. I continued this throughout college and graduated from college with a degree in Mass Communications which included Radio, TV, and Photography. Life then took a few detours, but a camera was always close by. After those detours I was living with a couple of friends of mine, one of which was a Photographer and took me under his wing and brought me into the digital age. My world changed. I began photographing everything I could from houses to products to people. I then made some big life changes and moved up towards Boston and started Scott Thatcher Photography. While I still Photograph everything I specialize in Head Shots and Family Portraits. The path to where I am now has taken me in a few different directions. The most important thing I have learned is that practice makes perfect. I pick up my camera everyday even if I am not working. I will say I am going to try this today and will work on it until I have it to a certain point, but I never stop practicing and learning. Technology is always changing and that is one of the things I love most about Photography.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Owning a business is never as smooth as you want it to be especially when it comes to Photography. You get into it thinking that you are going to be able to shoot every day and really it turns out that you are really only shooting about a quarter of the time, so that was a tough lesson to learn. Most of my struggles though have all been learning how to balance the Artist in me with the Business person in me.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Scott Thatcher Photography – what should we know?
I love Photography. Everything about it. From the technology to the cameras, Nikon of course, to the finishing of the images to the production of the images. Specializing in Head shots and Family Portraits with a twist they say. I try to bring my own creativity to every image I take. Sure Head Shots are Head Shots, but let’s step away from the standard plain background and use our environment to really make you stand out. Let’s use your Family Portrait to really create a memory. Let’s shoot somewhere unique and do something fun that will mean something to your family. Those are the top two specialties. I also provide wedding services, for small intimate gatherings, product services for companies for their marketing, and real estate services for the South Shore.
As a company I am most proud of how we truly care for each of our clients. I try to get to know each of them as an individual, which allows me to really capture them as them. I love to have fun and love what I do, but I am a professional and I bring that level of quality to everything that I do. I feel that this is one of the things that sets me apart. I am involved personally in every step of the process, from the initial consultation to me delivering the products to the person. I am my company, my brand, and I love to bring my personality to everything that I do.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Wow a lot of people deserve credit for helping and supporting me. Bob Hewitt who first put a camera in my hand in high school, my friend Shaun for introducing me to digital photography and pushing me to learn more and shoot more, my fiancé Brianna for just about everything, of course my family for pushing me forward. I have had a couple of Mentors that really opened my eyes, Jeffery Shaw and Paul and Melissa Pruitt. I have been blessed with many encouraging people in my life and truly can’t name them all.

Some of my most memorable photos were taken by Scott Thatcher. He does capture images that stay in your mind for years. From group shots of my grandchildren to fun shots of my beautiful daughter at her wedding. I enjoyed the article highlighting his business.
