Meet Savannah Dos Santos of Amor As Art

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Dos Santos.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
By the age of five, I had experienced living in twelve different locations, both in and outside of the United States. My biological mother was a photographer in the 80’s, but I did not know her until the age of 23.

My personal memory and identity had very little foundation. When refusing to have my picture “taken” by a new acquaintance, this woman handed me her camera. Looking through the viewfinder, I was asked to identify a few simple elements, wait, and press the shutter. Later, I was presented with a stack of prints and told, “This is uniquely YOUR memory.” I explored every camera I could get my hands on, and learned to develop the film. My confidence would grow each time I waited to see the results and “remember.”

Many years later, I was identified as a strong visual learner. The camera was a tool I used to be included in social situations, but also to appropriately disengage. Visual art was an area of interest, and brought me success as I earned my BFA at Montserrat College of Art.

It was an internship for the Peabody Essex Museum, where I met some of the most creative and kind people, including my first mentor in wedding photography.

My first wedding experience was in 2007. It was thrilling, and I felt very special to be witnessing quiet moments and joyful tears of complete strangers. Surprisingly, my mentor handed me a camera and let me follow his lead. Not only did I enjoy the process, but I felt embraced by the clients as their “calming presence”.

Has it been a smooth road?
Today I feel blessed with the opportunity to use my creative discretion. The work has always been a bit personal, but sensitive to requests and preferences of others. It has not been easy learning to run a business or to market my craft.

I believe in providing an unforgettable experience, and the clients will follow.

However, my greatest challenge has been finding a healthy balance as an artist, professional, and mom to a special needs child.

Life has pulled me in unexpected directions, but I am grateful to find beauty in the darkness, as well as the light.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Amor As Art – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My passion exists in the moments when a father is giving away his daughter at the altar, or a son brings his mother to be reunited with her lost love since WWII, when a mother embraces her newborn, or an entire family expresses “until next time” through heavy emotions. Sometimes it’s a child who may be considered disengaged, but for a few moments, a true connection is made.

The business name (Amor As Art) represents the love and devotion defined as art itself. I am just a witness, with an extraordinary opportunity to remember.

I specialize in Event, Portraiture and Milestone, photography with a Multicultural and Inclusive approach.

Customized archival prints and design services are also available.

The invitation to preserve memories, has allowed me to feel valuable, rooted, and fulfilled.

I look forward to future photographic collaborations and evolving techniques.

My focus is to reach new clientele and offer inclusive services to those who may avoid being photographed for any reason.

My dream is to have a sensory friendly space, outside of my home studio, and offer a positive experience to those entrusting me with their photographic legacy.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The diversity of people in the city, is very stimulating. It is inspiring to learn how we all come from different perspectives, and eventually, have an influence on each other. I love having access to so many experiences of life.

On the downside, the magnitude of traffic challenges us all, like a cruel behavioral experiment.
