Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Depault.
Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I decided I wanted to pursue cosmetology while I was stuck in a rut in college, I wasn’t happy and knew I needed change. I was working at a salon in Cranston, RI as a receptionist and just fell in love with the atmosphere and industry. I decided to attend Paul Mitchell in Cranston, RI in June of 2014 and it’s been all uphill from there. After working as a stylist at my first salon, I know I needed yet another change, to grow my business, make more money, and be on my own. I decided to rent a station at iStyle Salon in Cranston, RI (I clearly like Cranston). I’ve been at iStyle for a year and absolutely love it. We’re a small team of amazing stylists, we all rent our stations and are very independent.
In January of 2018 I wanted to venture out even further and start my own brand, Sarah Depault Beauty. We are an on location hair and makeup team specializing in weddings and special events. We serve all of New England, and beyond! I have a team of about 5 amazingly talented women who work for me and I’m currently searching for some new makeup artists to join my team as we are getting busier every month!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’d be lying if I said I had some major struggles. I mean, it wasn’t easy since I have put in SO much hard work, time, money, and dedication in building my clientele, my business, continuously educating myself, and keeping clients happy. When you work for yourself, you’re in total control of what happens with your business which is why you have to work 24/7, it never, ever stops. The emails, texts, calls, appointments, bridal contracts, I do it all, that’s all the behind the scenes work that I never knew would take up so much of my time, but I truly enjoy it.
Please tell us about Sarah Depault Beauty.
Sarah Depault Beauty is an on-location hair and airbrush makeup team. I know what you’re thinking, ANOTHER on location team of women who do weddings, how many more of these can there be? But we truly know how to make your styles last, how to make your makeup smudge, cry, sweat, and dance proof, no touch-ups needed, I guarantee it. We only offer the best products such as, for hair, Matrix, Paul Mitchell, Moroccan Oil, Kenra, and many more. As for makeup, we use the best airbrush makeup there is, Temptu. We also have products from every brand you can imagine, MAC, Benefit, Stila, it cosmetics, Urban Decay, Makeup Geek, Ardell lashes, BareMinerals, and so much more.
I am most proud of the reviews we receive and the amount of referrals we’ve had in the last few months. I never knew we would grow so much so fast. I’m also proud of the team of stylists I’ve built in such a short time. I have the most amazing women that are part of my team who nail every look, every single time.
As far as what we’re known for, I would say our ability to provide our clients with a natural look or a really glam look, and the somewhat in between that is the perfect amount just for them; pretty much, we can do it all. It’s our job and responsibility to make our brides and clients feel beautiful with a look that lasts through every emotion and element of their special day.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Absolutely nothing! I’ve only been a stylist for 2 and a half years, and I can’t believe how much I’ve grown personally and professionally.
