Today we’d like to introduce you to Don Cavicchi.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Don Cavicchi has been in the AV world for over 17 years. He has always had a passion for music (he’s been in more bands than you can count on your fingers) and the latest and greatest technology. Put those together and you have what makes CAV so great! He was with his former employer based in Concord, MA for about 10 years when he was let go due to the economy tanking. He was quickly hired by another company (literally the same day that he was let go), but realized that he had enough knowledge and experience to go in his own direction. So, with his wife a few months pregnant, he surprised her as she arrived home after working in Boston all day. The living room was filled with tools and he had maxed out his credit cards to start his own company, Cavicchi Audio Video. His wife wasn’t thrilled with the idea, given that they were about to start a family, but she quickly saw how motivated and passionate he was and they ventured out and officially started Cavicchi Audio Video. Word of mouth was everything in the beginning–working with commercial and residential clients. His passion for the latest technology allows him to stay one step ahead of the average consumer and he prides himself in clean and orderly work and providing solutions that allow clients to have all the integrated technology at their fingertips without always seeing it.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest obstacle is being a small business. Starting from scratch is hard and resources are there, but you have to know where to look. We now have a new-found respect for all small business owners–especially the ones that have been around for 20+ years.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Sarah Cavicchi, Don’s wife, finally left her full time job as an executive director as an association for in-house advertisers (IHAF) to work as an account manager in 2016. That should have happened a lot sooner. We say that, but it’s hard to know if that would have worked financially. There’s such a fine balance of revenue and expenses as a small business owner.
