Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Beattie.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Life is so unpredictable, but sometimes it circles around and completes a dream. While in college, my boyfriend (now husband) and his friends rented out Cranes Castle in Ipswich for a spring evening cocktail party. It was magical. The warm spring night, the gardens, the rolling lawn down to the ocean – and I thought, wouldn’t this be beautiful location for a wedding! In my mind, it was my wedding, so maybe I wasn’t specific enough, but two years ago I was privileged to come full circle when a friend’s niece asked me to design her wedding at Crane’s – and it was magical. And that’s a consistent feeling I keep getting from working with people during their big moments in life – brides and their mothers for a wedding, children celebrating their mother on Mother’s Day, and people in love expressing it with flowers – I feel privileged.
In 2011, after being asked to design the flower arrangements for a few friend’s weddings, I decided to attend Flower School New York where the trade goes to become experts in flower design. Within a month, I had bought my first flower shop in Duxbury, MA., and, I kept attending Flower School New York, eventually, being taught by world famous Master Designers, Robbie Honey (known for his work at fashion shows for Hermes, Dior, Armani), Meredith Waga-Perz (top wedding & events designer in NYC), and Shane Connolly (floral designer for Prince William & Catherine’s wedding). Staying current, allows me to bring new and fresh designs into Consider the Lilies. All of my designers have been professionally trained and this brings expertise to our flower buying, conditioning, and design composition. We’ve moved into a new, bigger retail and design space since the first shop in 2011, but the one thing that has not changed is our intense interest in our client’s stories and then seeking to transform their needs and vision into something remarkable.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Finding talented designers (staffing in general), coolers freezing over on Valentine’s Day, planning and preparing for the unknown (e.g. Mother’s Day – 10 orders 5 days before, then having 250 arrangements to make 3 days before).
We’d love to hear more about your business.

Well, my romantic husband swears by Consider the Lilies! We even have a granddaughter named,Lily! I must say, the conditioning is key…my arrangements have lasted a week. I change the water daily, which is important. Kathy Denniston always sends us an enormous bouquet for Fourth of July, which we love for a week, then adorn our buffet table with! Doesn’t get any better,
