Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Gorin.
Samantha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
While I’ve been painting for most of my life, it wasn’t until a year out of college in August 2014 that I began selling my work. I had previously made and sold jewelry on Etsy, so it was easy for me to start adding some of my acrylic portrait paintings to my shop. I would share my artwork with my friends and family on social media, but with a full-time marketing job, it was hard for me to invest much time into my business.
Fast forward to January of this year, I participated in my first artist showcase, RAW Artists Boston. I was shocked by the amount of positive feedback I received and felt encouraged to try building up my business. About a month later, Sammy Gorin Art was born, and I have since seen unbelievable growth, specifically on Instagram where my following is nearing 9,000 followers.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’m very fortunate to have experienced very few obstacles while building up my business.
My 9-5 is in digital marketing and I also have graphic design skills, so making my website and developing an effective social media strategy came naturally to me.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Sammy Gorin Art is a colorful collection of contemporary art and abstract paintings by me, Sammy Gorin! I primarily work with acrylic paint, creating vibrant portraits of my favorite musicians, or making pour paintings, a form of fluid art that combines acrylic paint, pouring medium and other materials. I also create abstract paintings with alcohol inks and portrait illustrations with artist markers.
While I’m most proud of my portrait work, I’d say I’m most known for my acrylic pour paintings, as these have helped me attract an Instagram following of nearly 9,000 people. I receive daily questions from other pour painters about the materials I use, some people ask me for advice while others simply share how I’ve inspired them.
What sets me apart? From an artistic perspective, I think the wide range of mediums that I regularly work with is unique. Most artists find their “thing” and run with it, which I originally did with my acrylic portraits. But, I really enjoy learning new things, so if I see a new technique or medium that I inspires me, I have to try it out and add it to my range of skills!
