Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Burns.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I have my master’s in Counseling Psychology and opened a private practice where I treat individuals and couples around relationship issues. I saw a need in the community for a more direct, advice-giving approach, so I took my clinical knowledge and skills and created coaching programs, which are faster paced than traditional therapy and results driven to help those heartbroken to bounce back from a breakup, singles to find the love they have always desired, and couples to create the love life they deserve. In addition to my practice, I’m also the founder of www.lovesuccessfully.com where I publish advice articles and free downloads, such as my eBook, “Love Successfully: 10 Secrets You Need To Know Right Now.” I’m the author of the upcoming book, Breaking Up & Bouncing Back, due out summer 2018, and I’m an expert contributor to sites such as Brides, Women’s Health, Bustle, Refinery29, Elite Daily, Reader’s Digest and many more.
Has it been a smooth road?
I hustle every day and as my husband often reminds me, no one is an overnight success. Though I’ve blasted through my goals, the biggest struggle is work-life balance. As an entrepreneur, there’s always things I could be doing for my business, but I consciously remind myself quality time with my husband and friends is just as important.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the LoveSuccessfully.com story. Tell us more about the business.
Because of my background as a Licensed Psychotherapist, I bring a unique skill set to the coaching world that is based on clinical expertise. My clients often tell me I feel like their therapist and best friend combined to help them work through their problems and achieve greater satisfaction in their love life. My three passion topics are breakups, dating, and increasing relationship satisfaction for couples. In terms of breakups, my goal is to help clients work through the stages of breakup grief, understand the neuroscience behind their breakup, find the silver lining in their heartbreak, and reflect on their love lessons so they can become smarter, more intentional daters moving forward. For my dating clients, I help them master online dating by creating stand-out profiles, messaging strategies, and transition smoothly from online to offline, as well as to date with more confidence and self-esteem as they navigate the early stages of dating, to critically evaluate whether their new partner is “The One,” and to lay a strong foundation for a long-term relationship. My couple clients often seek support around communication, conflict management, infidelity and intimacy issues. I love what I do because I help people create more connection, intimacy, and happiness in their romantic lives, which gives us a sense of purpose and belonging.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
As the Millennial Love Expert, I’m a subject matter expert on modern day dating and all of the nuisances that come with ever changing technology and dating etiquette. I think we are going to continue to see trends in online dating apps. Online dating is a wonderful tool in which to meet many people with whom your paths may have never crossed, and in fact I met my husband that way! But due to problems such dating app addiction and what I call the “grass is greener” mentality, which is when someone is hesitant to commit to a good relationship because they worry someone “better” is out there that they can meet with the swipe of a finger, I think people will burn out from dating apps. I’m already seeing many disheartened and jaded online daters. My hope is for new research on the neuroscience of love that can continue to expand our scientific knowledge on what makes a good match, and why we feel chemistry with certain people but not others, which we can they incorporate into the online dating sites and apps.
In terms of Millennial marriages, I feel optimistic that we will have a lower divorce rate since we are spending more time courting and cohabitating before making a life-long commitment. This gives us the opportunity to test out a relationship and work out the kinks, or call it quits and not have to deal with the legality of divorce. We are marrying for love and the quality of our relationship, versus for external factors, such as having a baby, or to buy a home together, which was more common in past generations.
