Meet Brittany McGlone of Sage & Grace in Worcester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany McGlone.

Brittany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I always knew I wanted to be a stylist. I graduated cosmetology school in 2010 and started work right away at my mother’s salon. Right about that same time, at 22 years old, I started my first company with my best friend, called Beauty in Motion. I found my passion for hair styling and makeup, and we became one of the first traveling hair and makeup companies in the area. Once I gained a good clientele a few years after I started working for my mother, I opened my own salon in Worcester. Since then,( 2013), I have been fortunate enough to double the size of our small salon. (Or what once was!)

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There’s always going to be bumps in the road as a small business owner, I just try my best not to let them get in the way! I never went to school for business, so there have been quite a few times I’ve had to rely on google to get me through.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sage & Grace story. Tell us more about the business.
I am vegan and have always tried my best to eat organic when I could. It only made sense to work with clean, organic, and cruelty-free products. Because we offer such specialty products and services, I feel lucky enough to have built a community around my salon, where people can come in, make new relationships, and just have a good conversation with like-minded people. We offer organic hair services, nails, copper foot soaks, makeup, and facial waxing.

We are mostly known for being a clean salon. Clients can trust the products they buy here, and what we use on them for our services. The hair color we use 95% natural and 60% certified organic. That’s as good as it gets when it comes to salon quality hair color. Every product in the salon is vegan & cruelty-free, and we strive to provide the healthiest products available for our health, our client’s health, and the environment.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’ve never thought about whether I have good luck or bad luck on my side, but it must be good luck! I feel lucky to have the community around me to support my business, and I don’t know if I would have made it this far without a little bit of good luck!
