Meet Ryan Esco of FireRock Marketing in Quincy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Esco.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We have been in marketing and sales for the last 22 years. I started off in sales for a large pharmaceutical company and moved into marketing. I have worked on life cycle management, new product development and product launch on a global level. We launched FireRock Marketing as small business sales and marketing consultants in 2010 in Boston Massachusetts to help small businesses navigate the rapidly changing marketing environment. This has helped to free ourselves from the constraints and pressures of the corporate rat race, while helping business owners achieve their growth goals.

Our team has spent the last 20+ years in various sales and marketing leadership positions on both the client and agency sides. Over our careers, we’ve built successful marketing programs for big brands from diverse categories including footwear/apparel (Timberland and New Balance), healthcare/pharmaceuticals (Sanofi, Genzyme, Pfizer), and technology (AT&T and American Well). The lessons we’ve learned along the way put us in a unique position to help small businesses navigate the new world of marketing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Going from corporate to owning my own business has had plenty of challenges, from finding the right clients to hiring the perfect staff. With the ever changing world of marketing there are plenty of challenges in keeping up with technology, managing clients’ expectations and building a business that has staying power.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and learned a strong work ethic from my parents and started with my first job at 11 years old delivering newspapers on my bicycle after school. I was primarily focused on science and math in school but enjoyed learning and reading. Like all good Texans I love football and played through High School. I loved to be outdoors and fishing. I spent most of my summers outside. I had a variety of friends or “jocks, nerds and cowboys”.

I was very detailed oriented and enjoyed making new friends and learning about people. I would be late coming home from my paper route and my parents would get frustrated. They would go out looking for me and find me on someone’s porch talking about anything and everything.
