Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruchita Dagli.
Ruchita, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got into Fashion design when I was in High School.
I was watching t.v, flipping channels when I came across a show by a very talented Indian Designer . His designs were so beautiful and breathtaking that I just could not take my eyes off them. It was like a Eureka moment !I knew that this is what I wanted to do..create beautiful and timeless clothes , rich in Indian textiles and embroidery.
So, I applied to a design school in Mumbai, where I lived and for the next few years studied Fashion and Textiles along with my bachelor’s degree in Commerce . I Soon I was designing clothes for my friends and their Moms who were really nice to let me experiment on them. The word spread and I started getting more and more work.
I designed my first wedding dress for a very dear friend when I was 19..and there has been no looking back since then. Today, I’m 39 and still every time I make a wedding dress it’s as exciting as it was 20 years back!
Five years ago ,I got married and had to move to Boston ,where my Husband lived. This meant, closing down my store and Business back in Mumbai.
I loved being in Boston city and everything about it,but I missed creating and making wedding dresses, so I decided to start working with Brides in the U.S. I now work with brides and their families all across the globe .
All my bridal designs are custom made after an in-depth understanding of my clients culture, her personal style and her vision for the wedding day look.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a fun and challenging ride! Initially after moving to Boston, I thought of changing my career and getting into another field but my heart was still in designing.Everyone told me that it was almost impossible to live in Boston and manage a production team in Mumbai.
You have to physically be there in the workshop explaining ideas and designs to the artisans who I work with.
I decided that I will take upon this challenge and went back to Mumbai to make everyone tech savvy.
We made sure all the artisans had a smartphone, Laptop etc and a good internet connection.
I now work with my team via video chats and whatsapp in their time zone and together we are able to create these designs.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ruchita Dagli Designs – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Ruchita Dagli designs is a company that works with brides to create a one of a kind wedding dress.
We specialize in South Asian Bridal wear and Fusion wedding dresses.
All our dresses are 100% handcrafted and created using the best silks and hand woven fabrics and embroideries.
Each dress is an extension of our bride’s personal style and her vision.
For any Bride, the most important thing is the “dress”!
To be able to create a dream wedding dress for our brides and be a part of her big day is the most satisfying thing for me.
What sets me apart from others is that all my bridal work is custom made.
We often get brides who have hybrid weddings and to find a dress that represents both the bride and the groom’s culture in one dress and we are able to help them create any kind of outfit that they are looking for. All our dresses are made to measure so the fit is always perfect.
The thank you notes and positive reviews we get from our brides after the wedding makes all our efforts so worth it!
