Meet Ron Levy of Levtron.com and Ron Levy’s Wild Kingdom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Levy.

Ron, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a musician, Producer, arranger, composer and writer. I began my career as a High School student in Brookline in the mid-1960’s backing up various artists visiting Boston with my little blues band (Chuck Berry, John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley & others) From there, I began touring with blues legend Albert King. Soon after, I began touring with B.B. King as his pianist from 1969 to 1976.

I returned to Boston in 1978, played locally with several bands, studied music privately, formed my own band “Ron Levy’s Bluesman Band’. Luther ‘Guitar Jr.’ Johnson of Muddy waters fame & I co-lead a 4 piece combo. I then joined ‘Roomful of Blues’ and recorded my first album entitled “Ron Levy’s Wild Kingdom’ which featured members of Roomful and the Fabulous Thunderbirds for Blacktop Records out of New Orleans.

I continued with Blacktop as a session musician, composer & arranger and then got involved with Rounder Records, subsequently forming the ‘Bullseye Blues’ label garnering 9 Grammy nominations as Producer and A&R man during the 1980’s through the 1990’s. I headed a short lived but much acclaimed label called “Cannonball Records’ out of Minneapolis, which sadly folded after 3-4 years when the record industry was turned on its…….ear, with the advent of downloads and the demise of record stores, chains & distributors. Despite all that, many of my songs were used in numerous Hollywood films and TV series, even to this day!

For the next 5-6 years I toured nationally& in Europe with my Hammond B-3 organ group ‘Ron Levy’s Wild Kingdom’ and recorded five albums on my own boutique label Levtron.com. In 2004 ‘Finding My Way” was named “Soul Jazz Album of the Year.” Its follow-up “After Midnight Grooves” finished second in 2005.

I came off the road for health and sanity reasons, purchased some rental properties in Manchester, NH and got caught in the Real Estate crisis which neither helped my health nor sanity! I began writing a series of memoirs of my various life experiences and of those of my compatriots entitled, “Tales of A Road Dog.” It’s available as an eBook, in old fashioned print and an innovative & unique web-book and has received rave reviews across the globe and incredible sales!

Today, I do lectures (Harvard, Google etc), do consulting and give private music lessons via Skype as well as hawk my book and recordings on my web-stores (see website for links). Recently, I have been very much involved with British filmmaker Jon Brewer on a documentary about travelling on the road with B.B. King. It is a follow-up to his much acclaimed film, “The Life of Riley.” We hope to see it released in the Fall of 2017.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My careers have been about as smooth as a mountain range full of peaks and valleys.
Read my book, “Tales of A Road Dog” and you’ll know all the terrain of a life of a musician on the road. The subtitle is ‘The Lowdown Along the Blues Highway.’

“Wow, Ron Levy’s book is AMAZING! Wonderful reading, entertaining, fun, educational and, well, AMAZING!” – Norman Darwen – Blues Matters! – UK

We’d love to hear more about your business.
All in my book! You’ll find a very unique life story indeed….

What were you like growing up?
Always been very curious, fun loving and dedicated to fulfilling my musical dreams, some of which I achieved, some not.
