Meet Rochelle Seltzer of Rochelle Seltzer :: Creative Core Coach in Brookline

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rochelle Seltzer.

Rochelle , can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The short version of my story is that I was a designer for over 3 decades, and owned my design and branding firm, Seltzer, for 27 years. I started to work with an amazing coach in 2009, and my life changed in remarkable ways. I decided to sell my business in 2011. I was open to the next, right thing in my life, and after having a powerful retreat experience I realized that I needed to take a deep dive into understanding creativity.

After two years of intensive study with the leader of the retreat I had attended — a brilliant Israeli psychiatrist who founded the Psycho-Creative Institute —I realized that I wanted to create a coaching practice based on all that I learned. Having benefited so much from working with my coach, I realized I wanted to support other accomplished women.

My clients typically want to overcome limitations they face, or regain diminished confidence, get unstuck, get clear about the future they want for themselves, make a big career move, get their out-of-control lives back to sanity, want support to navigate a major transition in their lives — or face a combination of challenges like these.

Coaching these remarkable women to support and guide them to create the lives they truly want — and live their greatness — is my passion. Seeing my clients commit to doing deep work with me, and seeing them realize incredible transformations in their lives, is amazingly rewarding. This is the work I was meant to do in the world, and it is a joy to do this work every day.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path to creating the coaching practice I have built was not one I could ever have imagined. It was not until I embarked on deep coaching work in my life that I overcame many personal limitations.

I hired my coach to help me market and run my business more effectively, not realizing that the coaching work would focus on me. I learned to be a stronger and more confident leader in my business — with my clients and my team — but most importantly, I became a stronger leader in my life. I became more comfortable being seen in my marketing, and writing more personally in my blog posts. And, I became more confident being my authentic self in every part of my life. I faced old, deeply entrenched limiting stories I had held onto. I was willing to get out of my comfort zone to get past limitations I had lived and thought would never change.

All of my work to realize personal growth enabled me to trust myself to sell my business when I realized it was no longer exciting me every day. I trusted myself to find a meaningful new direction, and embark on a new phase of my professional life.

Going back into a deep learning mode for two years was exciting, but challenging. And, developing my coaching skills, mentored by my master coach, took a lot of commitment to a long process. Then I had to build a website to tell my story, and I had to enroll clients. I had been offering workshops, and over time, I met women in my workshops who became my coaching clients. I wrote articles to send to my growing list, and post on my blog. And, I learned how to build a solid coaching practice, which was different from the business I had owned before.

I also embarked on my own creative journey, as an artist. This was also big, courageous work for me to learn to do. Having explored sculpting and poetry, I am now a painter and work in collage. This big new part of my life propels my growth in remarkable ways.

My path of learning and growth is one that will never end. There are times when things blossom beautifully, and times where I run into rougher patches. Through all of this, I have grown in exciting ways, and the transformations I am able to usher into the lives of my clients gets more exciting every day. There’s no other path I would want to be on.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rochelle Seltzer :: Creative Core Coach – what should we know?

I am a Creative Core Coach who teaches my clients to Live Big by igniting and accelerating the vast power of creativity. I coach accomplished women who are frustrated by challenges that limit them and are ready to create the big, bold lives they desire. And, in my work with organizations, I lead retreats and customized programs that deliver powerful creative and learning experiences that build creative confidence, foster productive collaboration, and enhance team cohesion.

My coaching approach is based on a foundation of awakening creativity in my clients — and expanding the definition of what creativity is and its power in their lives.

My clients learn that creativity is more than drawing, or dancing, or making music — it is the fuel for waking yourself up and realizing that you have agency in your life. You have the power to shape your life. You have choices, and you get to make them.

When you truly understand, and believe, the power you have to create the life you want, rather than living reactively, you have the capacity to bring bold change into your life. You learn to connect to your intuition and its wisdom, and live without fear. This requires 3 key ingredients:

1. You must be willing to embrace the mystery and go deep and engage in the work.

2. You must believe — because we become what we believe. When you believe that you matter, you make yourself a priority. When you believe, you can take sure steps in the direction you want. When you embrace all of your creativity you believe in every possibility.

3. You must make commitments. You need commitment to create structure and space in your life to cultivate creativity. You need commitment to yourself. You need commitment to focus and make the effort it takes to implement change in your life. That change may start with taking small, deliberate steps — but it builds and expands in remarkable ways.

I am most proud of supporting my clients to create in vast and varied ways, and make remarkable transformations in their lives. This is life-changing work, and it is a true privilege to do it.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Most important to my success has been my own, ongoing work to grow, expand, and live the most creative life possible. Coupled with that, I have learned to be a keen listener, and I am sincerely curious. I look for what’s behind or lies under what my clients say to get to the real issues that hamper them, and I can then guide them to get beyond their limiting stories. In these ways I am able to powerfully serve my clients.
