Meet RobYn St.Germain Spindler of RobYnWitha-Y Wine Glasses & Co. in Metro West

Today we’d like to introduce you to RobYn St.Germain Spindler.

RobYn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Of course, it started with Wine! It was Christmas night, we got together with friends and already had more than a few drinks (Sorry Mommy!). I was expressing my exhaustion with all of my holiday shopping for my family of six… and maybe mentioned how much I actually spent (ha, ha. ha). With that said, my husband, Denis said “RobYn, Are You Kidding Me?… To which I immediately responded, “DO YOU KNOW HOW EXPENSIVE IT IS TO BE ME?!” My catchphrase was born!!

I studied fashion merchandising at Framingham State and had taken some art classes but ultimately decided to stay at home and raise my children. After my twins were born I decided to do something for myself and that is when I began painting. I started with acrylics and canvas and found that I really enjoyed it. After our Christmas “conversation,” my friend Nicole really encouraged me to put the catchphrase out there. Since we were drinking wine that Christmas; wine glasses seemed like the natural canvas for me!!

I took out my sketch pad and pencil and came up with my character. I put her on my glasses with different colors dresses and my catchphrase on the base of the glass “Do You know How Expensive It Is To Be Me?!” I felt it was still missing something. I wanted her to be classy, sassy, and stand apart from the others so I felt she need some sparkle… not just any sparkle, it had to be Swarovski Crystals! Now, my creation was complete.

Has it been a smooth road?
If you asked me in college if I would ever be an entrepreneur I would have answered, “No Way”, “Never!” For me, it was very intimidating starting my own small business. We started by selling the glasses at craft shows and wine shows where I actually had to “speak” to people and sell my wine glasses. Painting my wine glasses at home is relaxing for me but getting out there and telling people what I do and marketing my glasses is a challenge. It took me a while to get comfortable with putting myself out there. Sales are not my forte. I feel very fortunate that my glasses were very well received and it has boosted my confidence in my painting, as well as myself. I love that my glasses bring some sparkle to peoples lives. I have received some of the most touching, genuine messages from the buyers of my glasses. I recently did a giveaway featuring our character wearing all pink and with a pink ribbon wrapped around her wine glass, in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The winner was a woman currently going through treatment for this horrible disease. She messaged me saying with all of the hardships she is going through during her treatment, the breast cancer wine glass “was the most beautiful thing she ever owned.” It brought tears to my eyes to hear that. Messages like these make me truly love what I do!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with RobYnWitha-Y Wine Glasses & Co. – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in hand painted sassy wine glasses. Our glasses include various sassy catchphrases painted on the base of the glass such as “Cheers To Working Everyday & Whining Every Night!”, “You Had Me At Merlot” and of course our BEST seller and original ” Do You Know How Expensive It Is To Be Me?!”. Our glasses feature our sassy lady holding her wine glass, wearing her diamonds and one of her favorite colorful dresses. We are able to customize glasses by adding extra accessories; such as a tiara, pets, holiday themes and hobbies, extra bling and names.

What sets us apart from others is that each glass is hand painted and has genuine Swarovski crystals that are individually applied by hand (unlike many other competitors that use plastic crystals). Our glasses are extremely durable and at 19.5 ounces can comfortably hold quite a large amount of wine for those nights where you don’t want to get up to get a refill.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the city at night with the great variety and amount of delicious restaurants, the nightlife, and social scene. My only complaint is sometimes, it’s tough getting in and out of the city from Metrowest.
