Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Murray.
Rob, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a business guy with deep roots in Boston and just as deep of a commitment to serving the community.
After graduating from Boston College High School, I matriculated on to Boston College. I am a proud double Eagle! My first job out of college was as an auditor for KPMG in the Boston office. This was a great introduction to the world of business. I sharpened my business education at Harvard Business School and later served as a consultant for Bain and Company.
I spent the next 14 years growing a digital marketing agency called iProspect (now a part of the Dentsu Aegis Network). I was global president of iProspect, and before that I was president and CEO of iProspect, U.S. The company started with five people in a small office in Arlington at the corner of Mass Ave and Route 60. Over the years we grew and moved to The Arsenal at the Charles and finally settled in the Hancock Tower. Aegis Media afforded me the opportunity to grow iProspect into a global powerhouse with more than 1,725 employees in 55 offices across 40 global markets when I left.
Today, I’m president of Skyword, Inc., responsible for growing and scaling the company in the US and abroad. With our recently announced launch of our Skyword360 technology, our content services team, and our global community of freelance content creators, Skyword powers top brands as they work to create a unified, content-centric approach to differentiating themselves and creating exceptional customer experiences. With Skyword, I’m proud to be building another world-class organization founded in Boston—that means we’re building a team of people that have what it takes to win and the passion to make all of our customers successful.
Has it been a smooth road?
Over the past 20 years, technology has reshaped so many industries and completely disrupted others. I’ve been lucky enough to lead visionary organizations that have focused on the business challenge of connecting businesses with their audiences as they have moved online. But flying through the headwinds of technology faster than any of our competitors in the digital space has always depended on building a team that’s very agile and welcomes change and new challenges. It has not always been smooth and at times I feel like we have not moved fast enough. But today, it’s is my strong belief that exponential growth requires us to lead strategic changes at the organization in 18-month intervals. That can be painful, but it’s also very rewarding. Our most recent challenge is evolving our technology into something larger and more powerful that serves the needs of the entire marketing organization at enterprise companies. Recently, we decided to take our industry-leading tech at Skyword and reimagine it as an end-to-end marketing platform called Skyword360.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Skyword360 makes it easy for enterprise brands to produce, optimize, manage, and promote content at any scale with the goal of creating personalized content experiences long-lasting relationships with their audiences. Skyword also provides access to a community of thousands of freelance writers and videographers, an editorial team, and content strategists who help move clients’ content marketing programs to new levels of creative excellence.
Skyword’s is widely recognized as the most customer-centric company in our industry. We are proud to be ranked highest in customer satisfaction by independent analysts. Beyond being recognized for overall customer satisfaction, we’ve been named the “most loved” company in the space. Our customers are senior leaders at that world’s largest brands, so that satisfaction score translates to real business results.
I am most proud of the fact that the Skyword team truly lives its vision and values.
Our Vision:
To inspire people with moving stories.
Our Values:
We Respect – Treating others as we would be
We Work Smart – Utilizing our time and resources efficiently and effectively
We Stick Together – Working as one team, bringing out the best in one another and ourselves
We Innovate – Embracing creativity, curiosity and taking risks
We Question The Status Quo – Transforming old ways to new
Literacy and education have always been very important to me. Boosting literacy and education levels is the most effective lever that we can pull in order to create long-term positive change in our community. To that end, I’ve worked with non-profits like Read to a Child and First Literacy in Boston.
This belief in the power of literacy and education to change lives is also foundational to Skyword. Our team partners with many local charities, but we have a longstanding relationship with 826 Boston. 826 Boston is a nonprofit youth writing and publishing organization that empowers underserved students ages 6-18 to find their voices, tell their stories, and gain communication skills to succeed in school and in life.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I love our loyalty. I always describe Boston to people from outside the area like this, “Boston is a tough nut to crack. It’s not always easy to break through to Bostonians, but once you do — you have a loyal friend for life.”
But what I love most about Boston is that it remains a young and vibrant city with great passion and talent—everything you need to build a successful team.
