Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Martelli. Him and his team share his story with us below.
Please kick things off for us with some background on the story.
Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Rob attended the Aveda Institute in NYC. He began his career apprenticing, and later becoming a top stylist for the John Dellaria Salon in Manhattan. Dividing his skills between both Avanti and Dellaria for years. We are lucky to now have him full time in Boston. His impressive resumé includes working with a celebrity clientele including Jane Krakowski, Lady GaGa, Naya Rivera, Titus Welliver, as well as many others. Rob has also done makeup and hair for countless editorial photo shoots (including Playboy magazine), salon campaigns, and NYC fashion week runway shows. Additionally working as a platform artist educating fellow professionals in our business, Robs passion is spreading the love of beauty.
Rob is a hair extension veteran and is an expert at Great Lengths Bonded Extensions, a method favored by countless celebrities. He is the Co-Director of color education along with Julia Ceruolo for in-salon color education at Avanti. Completing their “Master Colorist” degree in Goldwell® Education together, they both are regarded as two of the most renowned colorists in Boston. Rob’s Motto? “Your hair is the crown you never take off!!!” His motto? “To show everyone’s inner personality through their hair.”
Rob, can you walk us through some of the challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, relocating to a new city after already having an established clientele was tough… had to start from scratch, but hard work pays off. Rebuilding after you are already an established stylist is hard on the ego and the wallet, but being a new stylist was all about me showing my craft and artistry in Boston and it caught on quick!

I was blessed to be taken into such an amazing salon in Boston. At Avanti, we aren’t just co-workers doing hair… we are a family creating beautiful creations and making woman and men feel great when they walk out the door. I specialize in color especially blondes… people think its so easy to create a beautiful blonde foundation on a client. It’s so much more than that! Skin color, eye color, their naturally existing color, constructing dimension… it gets me excited every time I have a new client in my chair! I also specialize in wedding hair and makeup… I love making the brides look as beautiful as they can be on their special day while still looking like themselves. AND having so much fun getting them ready on their big day!!!!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the beauty of Boston. I look up at the architecture every time I walk to work or look at the leaves changing in the public garden to inspire me for my next color engagement with my clients!
