Today we’d like to introduce you to Rick DeSanctis.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been producing and hosting networking events forever. I started doing this probably 25 years ago. I would host bus rides to Foxwoods, set up comedy nights, and of course, ave cocktail parties which catered to business people from all over and nonbusiness people as well.
When I was 24 a woman in my hometown Saugus said to me that I should start a newspaper I laughed at the idea. I didn’t have any experience at all, but me being me, I went home and created The Saugonian News Paper. A year later I sold it and then became the Executive Director of the Saugus Chamber of Commerce. In fact, it was the same woman who encouraged me to start the paper that I would replace in the chamber. It was we suggestion again. Being that I became a publisher of sorts I once again created another paper to go along with being the director of the Chamber. The two kind of went together as you might imagine.
After 3 years at the Chamber, I once again went off on my own taking all of the skills I had acquired from planning events, networking, publishing and knowing pretty much the North Shore business community. It was there that I became The Route One Business Networking Group, (BNG). I was off to the races.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Like anything, it takes hard work, determination and you have to be a bit tenacious in this industry. There had been times where other business groups popped up and nipped at my heels and then there were newspapers and magazines which tried to copy my idea of Route One.
Other obstacles were just simply a lack of maturity in dealing with basic business principles. It took some time to get to where we are today, but I am proud of the success we as a business community accomplished. It was the business people that I surround myself with that makes BNG a success.
Please tell us about Route One Business Networking Group AKA, Route One BNG.
It’s pretty simple. BNG is a Networking / Marketing company which aims to “make the connection” for business people looking to be seen. We do everything from monthly networking events, no providing solid marketing solutions. Our most popular product or tool is our Route One Magazine which is published monthly. It’s distributed from north revere on Route One all the way up to Rowley on Route One. Of course, we also salt and pepper the cities and towns surrounding Route One.
At Route One BNG I personally guarantee that our members will be seen and get what they need as a member. I also take great pride in being a man of my word, completing tasks and missions promised to clients. In a day and age where some business people make promises and choose not to keep them, I’d have to say is what sets us apart from other groups.
As for our Route One Magazine, well, it’s the vehicle that runs the show. Inside Route One you will find all sorts of articles ranging from business to light and fluffy. Our advertisers love this publication and are always telling me they see it everywhere.
In short, I love what I do and it shows by the effort I put into finding ways to keep clients happy and making money.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t start over. (Say this with a smile), This is the start over. I feel as though I finally found the combination to the lock. It took many tries of doing events, and publishing papers before I had blossomed. No, I definitely would not do anything different.
