Meet Richard Moscoffian of Landrics Customs in Fitchburg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Moscoffian.

Richard , let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Landrics Customs ironically came to be accidentally. It all started with my passion for motorcycles and cars. At the time, I was a manager at a BMW dealership auto body in Norwood. At one point I decided to rent a small space for myself to tinker with a few projects I had. So I rented a small Quonset hut in Ashland MA. It had a large amount of usable space so I decide to offer motorcycle storage. Well one thing led to another and just about every bike I picked up or was delivered for storage became a small or large job of some kind. Be it mechanical repairs or paint, I quickly began to have a following and a reputation for beautiful, affordable work. So one thing led to another and Landrics Customs was born. To begin with I only worked part time at my shop due to my still running the BMW body shop. But then things all changed when a (now former) New England Patriots player by the name of Mark Levoir came through the doors at BMW. He requested some custom work that just wasn’t along the lines of what the body shop was capable. So I ended up talking to him and taking on the job myself. Installing the First ever release of a $30,000 custom body kit for his brand new 7 Series BMW. It soon became the talk of the locker room at Gillette Stadium and player after player began calling me for work along all lines. In all I have completed about 12 vehicles for (no former) Patriots players and have spawned a Huge following for my work. So about 6 months after opening my doors for large outside jobs, I put in my notice to leave BMW and go into Landrics full time. It has been a roller coaster of nearly 10 years. Ups and downs, employees that have tried to take business, even start their own businesses after seeing my success. But we have always excelled beyond any other shop’s ability in the area so keeping busy has never been an issue. We pride ourselves on the best quality work available for an affordable price.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle in this industry has to be the lack of reliable employees. This industry is sadly plagued with talented people that suffer from some sort of substance abuse. So finding someone with the skills needed to maintain success has been the biggest hurdle by far. My second hurdle would have to be the hours needed to meet deadlines some times. There was one job about 5 years ago that I literally worked 76 hours straight without sleep to complete a job with an unmovable deadline and a short work date line for the work to be completed. But we made it. Even though I was nearly hallucinating by its completion. And slept for over 36 hours at the end. But when my client came to pick up his vehicle… the look on his face was all I needed to make our efforts worth every second.

Our way of making clients tell others to use us has kept our lot and shop full for years. We are now located in the town of Fitchburg MA. And have begun doing a ton of dealership collision work and are going full force. We are truly a one -stop shop for just about anything in the automotive industry. I have a saying. If I don’t have the part, I’ll get the part, If I don’t have the tool, I’ll make the tool if I have to. I don’t believe in “I can’t..” because in my eyes with determination comes success in nearly every aspect of life.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moments by far come at the end of all the custom work I have performed over the years. A TON of my clients have become great friends. And I am awarded “Creative Freedom” quite often. So when they come and see the ideas I have come to fruition then it is an AMAZING feeling. I have also had a few vehicles that have been featured in magazines (Super Street Bike) and on websites such as the “Chive”. So moments like that have been absolutely amazing.
