Meet Randy Kostelansky of Treatment Training Wellness in Back Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Randy Kostelansky.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am an acupuncturist that moved to Boston in December of 2016. Previously, I lived in Sarasota, Florida where I was a firefighter, paramedic, and EMT for eight years. I also have a background in personal training, massage, kinesiology, posturology, engineering, and hydraulics. I pull from the education I have received to create a unique and customized approach to treatment and training. I always make it a priority to educate my clients on the why and the how of their ailments and treatments during our sessions.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not an easy journey to get to where I am today. When my son was just four years old, I found myself a single father trying to make ends meet. I worked three to four different jobs and went to school part-time after work. There was a time in my life that my son and I were homeless, sleeping at a state park. I would drop him off at school, go to work and/or school, and then, I would pick him up from the aftercare program and take him to the beach where we would relax, eat and shower. We would pack everything up and head to the park where I “sold” it to him that we were camping and stargazing.

We made it through these tough times. We had some friends who discovered our situation and offered to take us in and give us a place to stay while I finished school and got back on our feet.

Treatment Training Wellness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Treatment Training Wellness (TTW) is a multi-disciplinary platform where therapists, doctors, and practitioners work together to achieve a higher success rate with a shortened treatment period. We strive to educate our clients on why they are in discomfort and what they can do to mitigate their current situation. At TTW, we believe that an educated client is a healthy and happy client. Many of our staff hold multiple degrees or certifications where they are able to have a broader understanding of the patient’s conditions, eliminating the need to have multiple practitioners at multiple offices to return to their apex of health.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I treated a woman who was directly affected by the Boston Marathon bombing. When she came to see me she had exhausted all other treatment options. She was in such pain that she was unable to comfortably sit, stand or sleep. Her doctors were unable to perform certain medical tests and had suggested exploratory surgery. She did not want to have any more surgeries. She was unable to work out, do yoga, Pilates, Barre, spin class… her pain was a 10/10. She had to take time off of work. She and her husband had the discussion that they should not have children due to her current condition.

At the end of her first visit, her pain had improved to a 2 or 3/10. After her second session, she was able to sleep through the night. After her fourth session, she had returned to work. By her 5th session, she had begun to exercise again. By her tenth session, this client went on a vacation with her husband. She said it was her first vacation in years and she was able to paddleboard, snorkel, and hike. The treatment time for these results is over the course of 16 weeks. Months later, this same client is now expecting her first child.
