Meet Rachel Tine of Rachel Tine Photography in Cambridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Tine.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rachel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always expressed myself artistically, first through drawing, then through music, painting, and poetry. When I was about 14, though, I started borrowing my father’s camera and have been hooked on photography ever since. I feel very fortunate that photography came so naturally to me, and I derive great joy from using my passion to help others.

Has it been a smooth road?
When I was about 19, my camera and all of my prints, negatives, etc. were destroyed in a fire. It was tough to start over, but I feel so fortunate that I had the chance to do so, and I continue to embrace the opportunity.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Rachel Tine Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a photographer specializing in headshots and portraits, although I have plenty of experience shooting products, events, concerts, fashion, beauty, engagements, and even weddings. I am apparently known for my artistic portraiture, with companies from Buzzfeed to Ozy Media specifically seeking me out for this specialty. My clients also say that I have deep empathy and am a lot of fun to work with, and they greatly appreciate my genuine, upbeat attitude, deep understanding of lighting, and my attention to detail. My social justice oriented photographic work has also garnered attention, with Dig Boston and the Improper Bostonian featuring my most recent social justice series in their publications.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The shift from film to digital has forever altered the photography industry, and the saturation of high resolution camera phones and consumer cameras has made it really difficult to survive off of photography alone. As technology continues to evolve and people continue to be inundated with images in their social media feeds, it will be interesting to see how artists find new ways to reach people.
