Today we’d like to introduce you to Quentin van Heerden.
Captain Quentin van Heerden, founder of Eureka Charters, hails from Durban, South Africa. He fished the Indian Ocean for much of his early life. Since relocating to the U.S. in 2001, he has taken to mastering fishing in the New England waters and off the Florida Keys. Never far from the water, he made his passion his business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, boats breakdown, bad economy – I’ve had several part time and full time jobs other than captaining through the years. I’m very happy with where things are today, but certainly there have been times that weren’t as easy.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Eureka Charters – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a fishing charter company. Boston and Northeast in general are home to many species of fish, with the most popular sportfish being the striped bass. We do trips for shark, tuna, and other species as well. We’ll always let our customers know what we think it would be best to target on a given day.
We are very proud of our customer service, hospitality, and of course the fish we catch!
Here is some general info about our boats/service:
Eureka Charters operates two fishing vessels in the Boston Harbor, tailored to the size of your group.
- Home Port: East Boston, MA
- Pick-up Locations (no additional charge): Boston Harbor (various spots available)
Both boats have ample seating and are equipped with top of the line electronics, safety gear, and fishing tackle (temple fork fishing rods with shimano reels).
- 23’ Hydrasport v-hull center console (powered by a 225HP Honda 4-stroke motor)
- 28’ Pro Cat catamaran (powered by twin 250HP Suzuki 4-stroke outboards)
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are always focused on continuing to grow, and keeping our boat booked every day, for as much of the year as possible. We have some significant upgrades/changes coming that will improve the experience for our customers that much more, but I’ll keep those to myself for now…
